USNews: Aides urge Bush to call a Press Conference

Aides To Bush: Call A Press Conference

President Bush, no big fan of the prime-time press conference, is being urged by some aides and outside advisors to hold a full-scale nighttime press conference to help "define himself" at a time when his administration is under fire on several fronts. "There is discussion of holding a prime-time news conference where '43' can make remarks and get his licks in," an advisor tells the US News Political Bulletin. The event would be designed around discussing the results of his trip to Latin America and the latest from Iraq. But it would give him a chance to "frame the Department of Justice personnel issues and define himself and his administration," said the official, who is aware of the in-house discussions. "It's kind of a way to get in front of this ridiculous runaway train P.R. disaster. The sooner the better." One insider suggested that a major press conference would not only give Bush a chance to discuss Iraq, the controversy over the fired prosecutors, and even his embattled No Child Left Behind Act, but give him a chance to spin the issues his way.

1. I think Bush might be right in this case
I don't think these problems are spinnable.

4. He's defined himself all too well imo. No amount of spin will get
the vile stench off of him. The less I see of him, the better.

6. "Ridiculous."
Yes, that's a word I myself have often used in describing this administration. And "Runaway train" and "Disaster" as well. Nice to see they're finally getting it.

9. I've got ocean front property in Arizona to sell anyone
who really believes the chimp's "aides" and "advisors" are urging him to go on prime time tv. That's the last thing they want - an embattled chimp on the spot, desperately listening to the voice in the earpiece and trying to keep the verbal screw-ups to a minimum. Not going to happen.

10. Encouraged to define himself on national TV?
More proof that bush has surrounded himself with idiots. He is well defined as a lying corrupt ignorant bastard but his "aides" want him to go on TV and prove it all over again. Go for it bush.

14. Oh, please, please, please. This may be our chance to see a
total meltdown. I think the press may finally have guts enough to ask some of the hard questions that they have avoided in the past and I don't think he can spin fast enough to spin them off anymore.

15. Yep.
His oratory skills aren't half as good as Nixon's. He's gonna fall apart one of these days, if they keep shoving him in front of the lights.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, either.

19. And I think it would be only fitting if the question that pushed him
over the edge could come from Helen Thomas.

20. Liar, coward, incompetent boob, ...
I can already define him pretty well.

What I'd like to know is: Who signed off on this idiot's high school equivalency exam?

You can bet they wouldn't really take any questions.

21. It seems fitting
that their major concern here is the way they APPEAR, rather than what is actually taking place. That's the whole problem, well that and they're amoral sociopaths. This isn't a 'PR disaster', it's a disaster; and the way to fix it isn't by doing a controlled photo-op press briefing followed by an unleashing of toadies into the 'free' press,
it's by actually rolling up your sleeves, admitting your too numerous to count at this point mistakes, and getting to work.

Somehow, I'm not going to hold my breath.
