Poll: Giuliani Has Biggest Base of Support, Lowest Base of Opposition

If you’re a fan of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) you probably can’t believe all the good news surrounding the Presidential hopeful. He leads the Republican Primary polls, has the highest favorability rating of all candidates, and leads every Democrat in general election match-ups.

Rasmussen Reports recently conducted a national telephone survey that yielded another good dose of polling data for “America’s Mayor.” When we asked Likely Voters if they would “definitely” vote for or against leading Presidential candidates, more voters said they would definitely vote for Giuliani than against. The opposite was true for every other candidate in the survey including Senator Hillary Clinton (D), Senator John McCain (R), Senator Barack Obama (D), and former Senator John Edwards (D).

junk the media will continue to lather on him. It seems the GOP can't win without tying themselves into the tragedy that was 9/11. They did it in '02 and to a certain extent in '04, but couldn't get away with it in '06--but with Rudy not being Bush they might try and do it again in '08.

I know some of the truth about Rudy Giuliani, but where is a good place to get more information. I learned about the fact that Giuliani failed to get working radios for the firefigthers, which is one reason so many of them could not get out of the towers before they fell.

but the most unappealing thing about Dame Rudy is the fact that he LOVES Bush's foreign policy and loves the War in Iraq. He is an obvious flip flopper, being pro-choice for years but now hinting that he would appoint supreme court justices that would overtune Roe v Wade. I think he would say and do anything to become President, and right now he thinks that appease the rightwing nutjobs is the way to go. His handling of his marital problems was in poor taste and character as well.

4. The fact that his company is connected to Chavez

hadn't had time to register yet. Maybe they should wait a week and see what will happen.

But just remember anything negative will be shredded before it gets made public. The press is good at revving up the republicans.

5. Don't Agree

I contend that once the primaries start Giuliani's nomination will crash and burn. Even with this poll only 31% of the people polled said they wild vote for Giuliani. There are still a number of undecided people out there who did not know all they want to know about the candidates. I really think the conservatives will not support Giuliani. Even with Coulter saying that some Republicans are willing to look past Giuliani's past and his views to vote for him since they think he will bomb Iran, I think in the end conservatives will vote against Giuliani. Look at Bush I this was a guy who actually started a war and the conservatives did not support him. Bush I was much more of a conservative than Giuliani and in my opinion was not as much of a appeaser as Giuliani. For years Giuliani was a social liberal now he seems to be trying to cast himself as a social conservative who might not be a social conservative.

6. This isn't a poll about the primaries

and it isn't exactly an isolated opinion piece either. Poll after poll shows that Dame Rudy is the toughest candidate for us to beat. I agree that he may not get the nomination, and I hope that ends up being the case.

8. A Statistic Apropos Of Nothing

Look into the methodology. For one thing, with multiple people members of each party in the mix, one may be supporting Obama and against McCain. As you aggregate the combinations, the head to head Dem v. Repub match up can't be correlated.

So, this poll means nothing. And if Rudy's people are pleased, then they don't know a thing about how to use numbers.

10. Mostly image and name recognition for now--I don't put too much stock

in any of this. I don't know how good of a campaigner Rudy is, or how good of a debater. National polls this far out do not necessarily mean that someone is "making the sale" in Iowa or NH. I think we should keep an eye on ALL of them and assume that any one of them can and will be the frontrunner. They all have strengths, but I think our Dem candidates are still going to appear the most qualified and electable come the general.

reports day to day shifts like they are actually meaningful news. Sometimes these shifts aren't even outside the margin of error!
