Hey "old timers" -- anyone else feeling Watergate flashbacks?
Edited on Fri Mar-16-07 10:32 AM by Atman
I hauled out my old tv and set it to black and white, just for effect. This hearing is kickin' it old school! I hope it has the same end result, or even better! (No pardons!)

3. No, not really
Watergate was a three ring circus. The present situation feels to me something like Gore Vidal's 1979 movie Caligula in slow motion.

I was working evening then so I was able to watch the watergate hearings. I wish I could find one of the posters where tricky dicky's face was on the bottom of the lid and his lips were the seat so as when I took a dump I was dumping in his mouth

That was pretty cool. My friends and I all taught ourselves to do it.

I think he quit smoking years ago.

as long as it ends with the decider resigning in disgrace and a one way ticket to gitmo, justice will be served. Don't forget the 'rabbit ears' antenna so you have the total affect.

13. We have these threads every 2-3 months, but no new "Watergate" every happens.
Abu Ghraib torture photos, the 911 Commission, the Abramoff scandal, the AIPAC scandal, the Tom Delay scandal, Sibel Edmonds, the Scooter Libby conviction -- the list goes on and on, but nothing has changed.

The Neocon corporate media covers it up and sings everyone a lullaby to back to sleep.

Or a democratic congress.

BIG difference.

public, and covered the hearings gavel to gavel.

Even NPR isn't covering this. It's disgraceful. I'm listening to CSPAN and THEY aren't even playing anything intelligible. It's just hundreds of voices.

Edit - now it's an actual hearing. Guess there was a break.

21. I'm missing the eloquence that I saw at Watergate
Which put the historical precedence in perspective that the nation could understand and digest.

I'm afraid if we have the hearings again they will be interrupted by an Anna Nicole story
even if it is being shown on CSPAN 5.

I'm pleased what I see that some things are coming out in the news
so I haven't' given up hope.

22. It may be my "senior memory" but
I recall that Watergate sort of crept up on us and them went "BLAM". This stuff now has just been boiling and boiling. Of course, during Watergate I had a lot of other things to do like take care of a little guy...now, these many years later, I'm glued to the TV.

23. I'm old enough to remember the summer I spent watching Kefauver (sp)??
Granted, I was young, but there were three channels in those days and we watched it. My teachers were quite impressed in the sixth grade when I explained to all what it was all about. I rode on that "A" for a long time.....lol

24.  No it doesn't because I wasn't in the U.S.A. at the time.

I was in the Air Force stationed in Germany.

Watergate got very little mention on American

Forces Network radio or television or the "Stars and

Stripes" newspaper.

26. Except, back then it was on all 3 major networks and PBS.
You couldn't go anywhere without a TV being on with the hearings being shown. People would have portable sets out on the lawn watching as they laid out, every TV in the department store displays had it on, bars, restaurants, hotel lobbies...

I turned on broadcast TV earlier today and it was business as usual.
