Tx. Gov. Perry is in Dubai

Corporations pave the way for Perry's trip to Mideast

Gov. Rick Perry's Middle East journey, coming in the middle of a heated legislative session, is being funded by numerous corporations whose interests may be affected by bills passed or rejected by lawmakers.

Perry, his wife, Anita, and two aides to the governor — communications director Eric Bearse and general counsel Brian Newby — left Tuesday and are to return March 21 after visits to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

Spokesman Robert Black said he didn't know yet how much the trip will cost, but that it is being financed through TexasOne, a privately financed program controlled by the governor's office to bring more business to the state.

Some of the biggest contributors to TexasOne — $25,000 to $50,000 a year — include AT&T, Verizon, the Vinson & Elkins law firm, the Associated General Contractors of Texas, CenterPoint Energy, TXU, the BNSF Railway and Williams Brothers Construction Co.

-snip-

But the mid-session departure, nevertheless, raised the eyebrows of some legislators.

"I find it (the trip) very odd," said Rep. Mike Villarreal, D-San Antonio.

Perry's pockets will be stuffed

Perry is an owned man, bought and paid for.

6. Does corruption in Texas suprise you?
I'ts pay to play, Tom DeLay style. It doesn't matter what the hell the issue is, or whether it conflicts with anything else. If you're a company and you got the money to pour into Texas state legislators, you're in. It's that simple.

This is why I have railed against mandatory Gardasil. The democratic process - "by the people of the people for the people" - is evaporated in favor of this new pay to play system. It's great if you're wealthy and can throw money at the State - but bad if you're the average Joe trying to persuade legislators in a certain direction. Who do you think they'll listen to? Not you and me, but the guys with the big bucks.

:(:(

By the way I' ve heard it bandied about the last couple months that Perry may at some point make a Presidential run. When I heard this I nearly lost my cookies
:puke:

8. Hilarious
Halliburton moves from Texas to Dubai and Perry goes to Dubai to try to get something to move to Texas. You can't make this stuff up. (I hope he got all his vaccinations up to date before leaving.)

11. Do you really think he's trying to get something to move to Texas?
More than likely, he's trailing Halliburton paving the way for their move. What is the probability that both Halliburton and Texas's governor where Halliburton is located would both be interested in Dubai at the same time unless they have the same interests?
