So what RW "CIA Leak" talking points have been blown out of the water?
Edited on Fri Mar-16-07 11:42 AM by sabra
- The day Novak's article was published Plame was a covert agent
- Plame conducted foreign undercover mission in the past 5 years
- Plame didn't in anyway send Joe Wilson to Niger
- A memo was sent to the three Senate Republicans refuting their amendment regarding Joe Wilson's trip. The memo was ignored.
- Joe Wilson comes from a Republican family

What else?

edit: the above points shatter the talking points :-)

2. Rep Tom Davis (R) seems to have a new one -- "She was covert, but the White House didn't KNOW!!!!"

He keeps claiming there is no evidence that they "Knew" she was covert. And consequently the responsibility of her outing lies with the CIA.

Sounds pretty implausible to me.

4. They are still at it.
This is the latest from Washington Post.

Plame also repeatedly described herself as a covert operative, a term that has multiple meanings. Plame said she worked undercover and traveled abroad on secret missions for the CIA.

But the word "covert" also has a legal definition requiring recent foreign service and active efforts to keep someone's identity secret. Critics of Fitzgerald's investigation said Plame did not meet that definition for several reasons and said that's why nobody was charged with the leak.

Also, none of the witnesses who testified at Libby's trial said it was clear that Plame's job was classified.

However, Fitzgerald said flatly at the courthouse after the verdict that Plame's job was classified.

The issue was not clarified during the trial because the defense persuaded U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton to keep that information out of testimony because Libby wasn't charged with leaking classified information.

Rep. Tom Davis, the ranking Republican on the committee, said, "No process can be adopted to protect classified information that no one knows is classified. This looks to me more like a CIA problem than a White House problem."

Plame said she wasn't a lawyer and didn't know what her legal status was but said it shouldn't have mattered to the officials who learned her identity

MSNBC is even worse. They refer to the parties she has attended and her new book. Not a lot of coverage of what she actually said.

7. At least two
1. Valerie Plame was not covert.
2. There was no crime underlying Libby's perjury conviction.

If you've got the editorial pages from The Washington Post for the last two or three weeks, use them to line your birdcage.

9. I love the no underlying crime nonsense.
IF THERE WAS NO UNDERLYING CRIME WHY DID LIBBY HAVE TO LIE?

If Clinton told the truth nothing would have happened.
If libby told the truth cheney would be on trial.

8. Can't wait to hear Sean Hannity this afternoon.
Those have been all his talking points. He said that Plame was not covert, that she had not been out of the country in 5 years, that she did send Joe Wilson to Niger. Let's see what he has to say about his lies.
