DUers who helped me over the weekend with my hunger thread:
This morning, I got a call at 10:01 from the Salvation Army. I was directed to a program called "Meals that Heal" and am talking to them today. It sounds like a program that delivers meals -- which would be perfect for a couple with limited mobility and at times, functionality.

No one else has called back yet. Must be busy in the poverty world.

Also, OpEdNews has put up my sketch here:

http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_elizabet_070120_hunger_on_48th_avenu.htm

and I'm very happy that the issue will be aired out there. Thanks, Rob!

And thank you, DU. :toast:

5. It's a real education to live in Bush America.
Imho, we're going to have to keep honing these organizing skills until we get our country back.

Thanks for your help.

4. That's the challenge, isn't it?
Let's see how we do.

Thanks to you, I now know where the food pantry is that is local to this hood. Thank you so much. I'm going up the hill to visit and get to know the staff there. Because you have to know, there will be a next time.

18. Know what?
I volunteered for Food not Bombs when I was a student at SFSU. There is a HUGE hunger/homeless problem in SF. Hell, I guess it's all over the country. It's heartbreaking.

(ps. if there is a UCC church in your area, they might be really good folks to ask- I'm really moved by the compassion and generosity of this group, especially here in new england- no strings, no preaching, just compassion in action)

As you know, I"m sure, it's so distressing to a spouse to have their love taken away, where they can't visit.

I'm so glad his neighbors are in on this now!

You are so terrific! :applause:

They used to do great things..... do they have anything current which would be of help?

there was another program via the Salvation Army that would be a smidge quicker for Joseph and Donna.

I feel so clumsy, bobbolink. But, here goes nothing!
