Elton John could turn us gay, says archdeacon
Last updated at 13:06pm on 16th March 2007

Church leaders are trying to ban Sir Elton John from their Caribbean island because he is gay.

The star is due to play at Plymouth Jazz Festival in Tobago next month, but church authorities say his presence might tempt local people to become homosexual. Philip Isaac, Archdeacon of Trinidad and Tobago, said Elton's lifestyle failed to conform to Biblical teaching.

He added: "The artist is one of God's children and while his lifestyle is questionable he needs to be ministered unto. His visit to the island can open the country to be tempted towards pursuing his lifestyle."

Homosexuals can be barred from entering the country, but it is thought no-one has ever actually been turned away at immigration because of their sexuality. Promoters of the Plymouth Jazz Festival said Elton would perform as scheduled.

Umm, if this were actually possible, wouldn't this mean that EVERY metalhead would be gay by now?

4. It's true. Every time I hear "Tiny Dancer" or "Little Genie" I turn gay.
I'm usually alone in my car when I hear them though, so the effect wears off before I can do anything about it.

7. Do some forms of religion turn people into raving idiots,
Or does it make them so weak that they'll blindly follow and mimic anybody who crosses their path?

Perhaps both?

8. They're just getting nuttier and nuttier, aren't they?
The meltdown isn't pretty, and if it didn't affect so many of my friends and acquaintances, the outright ignorant bigotry would be kind of entertaining. As it is, I'm torn between shaking my head in rueful wonder and outright laughing at the lies. But I expect I'll figure it out soon enough.

Yep, I've got it.

the rewrite for Princess Di is even better.

15. Rob Halford hit on my boyfriend
Rob Halford hit on my boyfriend, a couple times. My boyfriend did not know who he was until they started to talk about work and he said he was a singer for a metal band. Really nice guy (not my boyfriends type - but still fun for him to tell the story :) He invited us to his concert(s) but we have not gone yet. One of these days, maybe.

I thought Barney made people Gay? Oh wait that was masturbation - maybe they should ban that!

26. What the hell is an archdeacon anyway? How does an
archdeacon get any say in anything? Why would anyone listen to him or do as he says?

What the hell is wrong with people, being so stupid and narrow-minded?

31. I cannot speak to such a comment about Elton John making
one gay. I really don't care. What I see as the real problem is that some people think that ones sexual orientation is so important-too important that they dismiss common sense. If one had good manners they would set aside that issue and focus on a person's contribution. It does bring up another issue on equality for me. That is that if we treated each other with equality we would not be dealing with all this trouble of sexual orientation, pay equity, immigration. To me it comes down to fair equal treatment.
