W. House: Undecided on Rove testimony on attorneys

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Friday said no decision had been made on whether to let top political strategist Karl Rove testify to Congress in the flap over U.S. prosecutor firings that is prompting calls for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' ouster.

The Justice Department has released documents and e-mails related to the firing of eight U.S. attorneys after critics questioned whether it was politically motivated.

President George W. Bush has expressed confidence in Gonzales and said the firings were justified. But he said the issue was not handled properly and Gonzales should go to Capitol Hill to answer questions.

6. He won't do it. They just want to make it look like they're

considering what's best for the country.

But, just as with the Plame trial, there's no way in hell they will let Rove testify unless they have no choice.

They're also having a problem coming up with an excuse on this one. They can't say that Rove's communications with Chimpy are privileged because they're already pretending that he didn't have any communications with Chimpy on this matter.

They may have to release a tangential communication (i.e. email) to show that Rove was in communication with Chimpy on this matter, but not necessarily in regards to the crimes in question. They need a middle ground.
