While I agree with you that we should look beyond the physical appearance of both Valerie Plame & Victoria Toensing, I don't think it's a "never in a million years" thing that posters on DU would not comment on the appearance of a male.

And, I read through all 16 threads on the hearing testimony today - it was almost always female posters who referred to Toensing as a "bitch" and not male posters.

The person I was responding to had bemoaned the fact that people were focusing on how attractive Valerie Plame was, and then made the comment that it would not happen to a man in the same situation "in a million years"

And, I said that while I agreed that people were too focused on Plame's looks (including Rush Limbaugh, it seems) I disagreed that it would not happen to a man in a similar situation (and cited the Keith Olbermann Estrogen Brigade as an example)

Threads on DU discussing how attractive Valerie Plame are were NOTHING near as bad as the threads on FARK. The funny thing over there is that the repuketards were saying she was ugly. You'd have to be from another planet not to see her as a knockout. I'm female and straight and I think she's good looking. Nothing wrong with saying that, unless that is ALL you care about her. Today was the first time I heard her speak and she blew me away. Looks, brains, confidence, class. Maybe we can convince her to run for office someday.

I've been guilty of knocking Ann Coulter for her looks, and I *sortof kindof maybe a little bit* regret it. I don't think it's right to base your opinion of a person's intelligence by their outward appearance, and I try not to do it, but I have to admit sometimes it is too irresistable, given her blackened soul. I do think women tend to get judged on their appearance more easily, because face it, makeup hides a lot. On the other hand, a lot of people say the reason Kucinich isn't taken seriously outside his group of supporters is his appearance. And how many billions are spent each year on things like "Hair Club for Men". It goes both ways I guess. We are all shallow, simplistic human beings in the main.. Doesn't mean we don't appreciate physical beauty when we see it. Valerie has some good genes, it seems. Joe is a lucky man. The right has nobody like Joe and Valerie.
