- She was covert. (Head of CIA confirmed this in writing)
-- She had undertaken covert missions abroad in the last five years
-- She did not recommend her husband. Her only role is that she was asked by her boss to ask him when she got home from work if he would come to a meeting
-- The outing caused her to lose her choosen career and wasted all her training.

Repub spin per Rep Tom Davis (R) is -- She was covert, but there is no evidence that the White House KNEW she was covert. (Man do I not buy that). Therefore it is probably the CIA's fault that she was outed -- because they didn't tell the whitehouse

-- White House did no internal investigation of leak, despite Bush's claim he wanted to get to the bottom of it. (this was a big revelation)
-- Victoria Toensing, Repub "expert witness", continued to claim despite all other testimony insisted Plame was not covert under the law, and Fitz was an out of control prosecutor. Despite this, also blamed the CIA and said White House did not know she was covert. (Waxman suggested that she was lying under oath and assured her that her "definitive" statement were going to be examined closely)

Plame testified she was covert and classified

That when the CIA knew her cover was about to be blown, they tried to intercede - novak published story anyway

Due to the blown cover - people died

WH "security chief" who took over in 2004 and didn't know anything *snort* knew of no internal investigation in the WH of the leak - that is, shrub lied when he said the leak would be investigated - they showed clip of mc clellan saying such but they didn't have a copy of the video in which shrub said such and Waxman joked that they'd have to rely on The Daily Show to find that clip :D

Questions to "security chief" about rove's security clearance - said he'd have to go to admin. to find out - someone on committee joked that since he was senior staff he'd have to discuss this with himself? LOL WH "security chief" who was in charge during the time of the leak has since moved to Georgia - I forget his name

vicky toensing (sp?) spun and spun and committee refused to let her continue spinning - she tried to blame CIA for not protecting their agents since they should have know the WH was planning to blow VP-W's cover? I guess she figured the CIA has psychics on hand to know what WH was up too?

Waxman closed hearing by informing toensing that her testimony was going to be examined for accuracy since she contradicted several things she had reported in news articles but said she didn't. I'm not sure that made sense. she denied making certain claims in her articles which were then read back to her in which she made the claims she denied making. (My head hurts).

It sounds as though toensing may be investigated for perjury - or maybe it's just wishful thinking on all our parts.
