People need to know when they're appreciated. knowing you're appreciated can help provide the confidence needed to continue.

Waxman and the others are surely going to be criticized in the MSM. I can hear it now... it's unpatriotic to investigate the adminstration at a time of war... It would be good to help balance out what they see in the papers, with a tidal wave of appreciation from the people.

We're always filling out online forms, sending emails telling our representatives they should do this or that. Now that some of them are doing what we've been asking/waiting for, I think it would be good to say thanks. I've seen a few posts thanking Waxman already. How can we make sure he knows how much we appreciate what he's doing? Let's remind them we're all watching and we're so thankful it's happening, finally.

Maybe flowers aren't the most appropriate idea, but maybe just a bunch of emails saying thanks is in order.

8. I'd like to throw out a suggestion. I do not have a clue how much
money could possibly be raised for flowers so I do not know if this is even reasonable to try...

Instead of flowers why not a small scholarship to a student at Waxman's alma mater, or to a local Democratic Party? Even if it is only $250.00, it could be something that could make a real difference. Or a donation to a school, soup kitchen, a favorite charity of the person we are honoring. I know DUers could come up with a snappy name. Maybe Democratic Underground's Thank You Rep. Waxman Scholarship. The name could be changed to fit the situation. We could do this once or twice a year, keep a running total. I wouldn't want to take away fund raisers for DU but would like to see us expand our horizons.

I LOVE flowers, they make an excellent visual but would like to see our efforts make a longer lasting effect than just a few days.

Of course, we would need to verify there isn't some type of Congressional rule against this sort of thing.

Just an idea.

3. Find out a charity he supports and we can set up a safe donor system.
Waxman strikes me like that would make him happy.

16. The day Nancy was sworn in
I suggested we do flowers for her like we did for Helen and Barbara Boxer. Some people were all gung ho with it, but others gave me a hard time with all kinds of other suggestions and others saying that she hadn't done anything yet, so we shouldn't do anything. I gave up and nothing ever happened.

allies and power within the party itself.

We want MORE anti-corruption, open government Democrats like Waxman. We want FEWER coverup Democrats in office.

We should do something that would thank his staff, as well as him. I've heard that positive feedback really means a lot to all of them. I don't really have any ideas as to what we could send, but I do think we should include his staff........

were awesome! Every one of them were focused and I thought they did a great job today. I'm not very familiar with Rep. Watson, but I loved the way she handled herself, especially with Toensing or whatever her name is.

A big thanks to all for an outstanding job!!!:patriot:

24. He had the line of the day.
When Toesing admitted she was 25 when she wrote the law 30 years ago, (What was she admitting to? That she could be excused for a poorly written law because she was young and inexperienced?) and Waxman replied, "We'll check on that too."

27. You completely misheard it, though it was the best line
Waxman said something along the lines of "You really have no reason to be here, since your only knowledge of the case is having written the law 30 years ago."

She said "Hey, don't date me. It was only 25" (as in, it was only 25 years ago).

Then Waxman hit the punchline: "We'll have to check on that too." In other words, you've been such a dissembler here that I wouldn't believe you if you told me it was raining and I was standing outside with you. It was a deep cut.

if someone will take up the collection we have a farmers market nearby, and I can order big baskets of fruit and nuts easily. I live near waxman's office.

46. I'm sure we could.
I know some people here know how to set up a donation page real fast, if we wanted to do something together.

Otherwise, I'm sure we could individually give money to the organizations and ask that it be in his name.

however, the main purpose of this is to show our appreciation to Waxman, and i'm not sure if in the second scenario that he would end up knowing about the various donations that were made individually in his name. on the other hand if we raise a few hundred or thousand bucks together and make the donation at once it would be more of an impression i think.
