Yay, Charlie Crist. He is "Unenthusiastic About Major New Toll Roads"
I am so glad to hear this. There has been a major push by the developers who rule this state to push them through rural areas. They are using private funds in many cases combined with the public methods. I wonder if this is to make it easier for the use of eminent domain. Just learning about all this so not sure.

I posted this earlier about a toll road straight up Central Florida's rural areas from Ft. Myers to Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando.

Florida to "help" environment by building a toll road up the rural center of the state.

They are arrogant to claim that since it will all happen anyway it is way to protect the environment.

So glad to see Crist spoke out on this. Jeb's cronies are all still around and will push it to the extremes.

Florida Governor Unenthusiastic About Major New Toll Roads

Tallahassee, FL (AHN) - Florida Governor Charlie Crist has refrained from making any major advances toward building new expressways across rural areas within the state of Florida, citing the need to concentrate on expanding existing roads such as Interstates 75, 95, and 4, before exploring the possibility of building new roadways.

The Florida Corridors project, supported by former Governor Jeb Bush, would have placed new toll roads in rural parts of the state to aid transportation and future development.

But present Crist appointee Thomas Pelham, Secretary of the Department of Community Affairs and the primary person in charge of managing Florida's growth, says that the Future Corridors project is the wrong approach.

"We should approach these plans from a comprehensive land planning perspective and then determine the appropriate transportation, not the reverse," said Pelham.

The one I posted about above is one in which Katherine Harris's cousin in the state legislator, J. D. Alexander, would profit greatly. That arrogant SOB owns much of the land in those rural areas.

The Heartland Parkway project was controversial because a Lake Wales Senator, J.D. Alexander, controls companies that own land along the proposed development route. It is estimated that the road would cost between $6.3 billion and $7.8 billion.

Katherine has another cousin in the legislature, Dexter Troutman, who let water company lobbyists write a water bill for him. He seem surprised when criticized for it. That Griffin/Harris/Alexander/Troutman clan....they're a hoot.

1. What do you think about Crist?
He seems to be a pleasant surprise thus far. I'm sure I can find plenty to disagree with him about, but for a Republican governor of a Southern state, he's been acting pretty progressive. Far more so, certainly, than Jebbie ever did.

3. I think Crist is a good Repug
which makes him practically an endangered species in Florida.

He doesn't appear to carry excess baggage in terms of political favoritisms inherited from campaign.

Don't know his roots in Florida but he has to be better than Jeb Bush, who moved to Florida right before running for gov.

4. I know there willl be things I disagree with him about, especially stem cell research.
He changed when he took offices and went for a limited support to appeal to the Christian right.

But overall he is so much better than Jeb.

8. sometimes Republicans will go against the grain.
but typically they are faraway like Idaho. It's really a new paradigm for a Florida Republican in office and doing what Crist is doing now.
