From the company’s financially angled Press Release (“NOT FOR RELEASE OVER US NEWSWIRE SERVICES”)

Attention Business/Financial Editors

Menu Foods Income Fund (the "Fund") (TSX:MEW.UN) today announced the precautionary recall of a portion of the dog and cat food it manufactured between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007. The recall is limited to "cuts and gravy" style pet food in cans and pouches manufactured at two of the Fund's United States facilities. These products are both manufactured and sold under private-label and are contract-manufactured for some national brands.

1. The stray cat my parents have been feeding apparently has been getting food that's on this list.
:(

LOTS of brands here. I didn't expect to see so many.

2. I fed my puppy one of the pouches last week
but it wasn't "cuts and gravy"; it was chicken and cheese (the PetSmart Authority brand). My vet says it's OK, and she's as fat and happy as ever. Hope we stay that way.

7. NBC Today Show keeps including IAMS, Eukanuba and Science Diet as being part of recall
They announced a bunch of brand names, "including others" and directed people to go to the website for the full list.

That's strange. Does Science Diet even make a "cuts and gravy" style food?

21. Actually
the store brands -- and most everything one can buy at the supermarket -- are corn-based, which means it goes right through them. The "upscale" brands use real meat by-products and added protein, which is why they're more expensive. The gluten in this product is what caused the problem, and the recall.

If you want to disagree, you'll have to take it up with my veterinarian. If you'd like to continue to just disparage, then go ahead on with your bad self.}(

11. I sure am sick of this happening.
We are already feeding one of our German Shepherds a raw diet. Our Shepherd pup is on part raw and part kibble. I think we may just switch the pup over to raw also since she is almost a year old. My dogs eat better than I do! But this packaged dog food is just getting scary. They also have a hard time with recalls because they are just sold under so many labels. The last recall from Diamond pet foods killed a lot of animals before they finally recalled it.

22. Thank you for posting the full list.
I emailed everyone I know with a warning and a link to this thread...and for my neighbors who do not have email ~~ or I don't know their email addies ~~ I printed off a list and will distribute to them. Hoping others did this to get the word out to those pet owners who might have missed this news.

Also, I lived in a planned development with a clubhouse ~~ and a list will go up on the bulletin board.

My dog gets primarily dry food which is mixed with chicken ~~ real stuff I cook ~~ so luckily, there was nothing for me to toss. Hope everyone else who used these brands ~~ that their pets are OK.

23. Oh great. I have been feeding my cats the food that is recalled.
I've seen no ill effects of it so far.
But I guess I should stop. What should I do with the remaining food?

31. Return it to the place of purchase
As long as it matches the codes on the recall list you should get a refund.

27. If you click on a name in the affected food list, you can download an .xls file
which contains information about specific manufacturer dates.
The company claims that only certain cans and pouches pose a risk.
