Like cockroaches that scatter in the night when a light is turned on I think they are regrouping in those recesses of the beltway where light shines not. Forming new think tanks with old members. Where is Rumsferatu by the way?

2. It's dead
but the problem is the people in the administration are extremely dangerous and desperate, and there is a small probablity that they would try and do something drastic to maintain control. On the other hand, there are enough people who have been burned by this administration, that it would be very difficult for them to get away with it this time

you may not realize it, but, rumsfeld is an "unpaid" consultant with the pentagon

3. Unless the Wolfowitzes and Perles went to jail, these people will never give up.
They may or may not succeed in regaining influence, but they'll always try and regroup and regain power.

I think they had their shot with Iraq II and fucked the country, and they're done for a while, if not for good.

4. There will always be "neocons."
--- Or Nazis,... fascists,... call them what you will. Susceptibility to authoritarian ideology,.. along with its myriad attendent prejudices, hatreds, cruelnesses and aggressions,... is among the potentials of human nature, itself. It is going to crop up here and there,.... and sometimes it gets organized.

11. I was going to say the same thing
They will always be with us. and THAT, in the end, is why the Founding Fathers drafted the Constitution as they did, to keep these people from being herded into lockstep by a Hitler, a Stalin, a Pinochet, a Marcos, a Bush.

If there's profits to be made, there will always be some bastard saying, "Hey, let's use the army."

Not that easy.

Like all foul creatures of darkness, what they fear most is the light. We must bring them what they fear ...

10. as long as they control everything -- and they still do -- they ain't dead . . .
they may be on their knees and breathing hard, but you can bet they're going to try to rally before succumbing . . .

and they're capable of just about anything to try to save themselves . . . or at least to bring the rest of the planet down with them . . .

13. Are Nazis gone......
Not a chance I say. They are just regrouping, and I worry they will come back stronger.....

We will never be rid of evil and must remain vigilant and never forget our past.

14. The neocons keep a lower profile. They haven't gone anywhere.
They don't profess agressive foreign policy in so many words but they talk up
the same old "victory or holocaust" world view regarding the need to tame the
Middle East. Now the existential threat comes from Tehran.

The Cheney gang was wrong-footed by the election and the puscht by Poppy's boys,
but they are holding on. The "surge" to Iran is true to the neocon master plan.

As for Donald Rumsfeld, he hasn't quite left the building yet:

16. Regrouping. Even after their 'confessions' of being disappointed in how Bush has carried out their
plans, they were able to devise and get the 'surge'.

17. They've had a comeback
Chalabi's back, Zalimay is appointed the new UN ambassador, and the AEI came up w/the surge plan. Bush is turning to the neocons again (God help us).

With so many ahistorical "thinkers", we may be truly doomed.
