I Need Your Opinion...
regarding privacy

friend of mine just informed me that the company she works for sends out a yearly "survey" that they are required to fill out. i didn't get a chance to ask, but i do not think it is anonymous

questions are asked:
how many sexual partners have you had?
how many sexual partners do you currently have?
do you have unprotected sex?
do you wear a seatbelt?
what is your cholesterol level?
(and for men--a question about how they pee--"they want to find out how their prostate is)

i was horrified. "and you fill that out and tell them?"
"yes, i have to. they send it to us every year"

"and you haven't reported this to anyone?"

"no. i don't know who i would report it to"

"employers can't even ask you who you're voting for!"

"i know."

"so why the hell are they asking you who you're fucking and how you go about it???"

-------------

i'll get more details later on this survey crap. it's a big corporation. i mean, big.

ok. what do you think about this? is this legal? can employers really crawl up your ass like this and shine a light around? besides the fact that it appears to violate the hippa laws...it appears to violate everything else as well.

1. Unfuckingbelievable.
It sounds like this company needs to go Union. I'd send this to the ACLU to get their opinion.

2. This can't be legal.
I'd take the damn thing to the nearest legal aid office.

If I had to fill this out, I'd make up shit.

3. I'd like to ask those questions to every Republican politician
But, seriously, that sounds wrong. It can't possibly be that employers can require this from their workers.

It's bad enough that to get my crappy job I had to pee in a cup and submit my body fluids to examination.

I'd sure like to see McCain's answers.

5. She needs a lawyer. Now.
Is this person employed in Illinois? If I were her, I would contact the EEOC.

It sounds to me that this is a violation of her right to privacy and esp if she is threatened with losing her job if she doesn't comply.

Let us know how this turns out, ok? I would like to know. This sounds like a horror story. Would be very surprised if this isn't sexual harrassment material. Yeesh. And a big corporation too who you would think would know better. I was once a small employer and we had to be VERY careful of questions we asked employees. VERY. This is way over the top wrong. An employee's personal life outside the office is off limits. Unless that employee chooses to share.

(edit: spelling)

10. She and her fellow employees need to contact a labor rights attorney ASAP.
They can't ask you questions like that during an interview, and that means they can't ask you those questions PERIOD. I would flat out refuse to answer this so-called survey.

12. Please share this with your friend
Illinois Human Rights Act.

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs5.asp?ActID=2266&ChapAct=775%26nbsp%3BILCS%26nbsp%3B5%2F&ChapterID=64&ChapterName=HUMAN+RIGHTS&ActName=Illinois+Human+Rights+Act.

And here is the department to call as they oversee that these rights are secured. http://www.state.il.us/dhr/

The more I think about this tonight, the more angry I am getting. Tell her that she must do something - if not for her than for all the other people there being subjected to this invasion of their privacy. I do know someone in this agency if she would like a human to contact there. PM if that is needed.
