1. Holy shit.
Any clue what sort of legal action will be taken?

2. The property owner has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.
But it's Oklahoma, he probably won't really suffer any serious consequences.
:grr:

3. That's what I was afraid of
Even in places with pretty good animal protection laws the consequences aren't often great when there's not a dog or cat involved.

5. God that's awful
Many years ago we had some sheep. I can't tell you how many nights I stayed up during lambing. We lost a few to coyotes but not from negligence. Shit like this makes me ill. IMHO, animal abusers are right down there at the lowest rung of humanity with child abusers.

6. I have promised myself to keep a sharper eye as I go around this area.
If there's more of this kind of thing going on (there probably is) I'll try to notice. It just makes me sick.

7. Even if the owner is a complete asshole it makes no sense economically
We had a sizeable investment in our sheep and we barely broke even on it. My guess is we worked for below minimum wage even though we both had full time jobs at the time. Why would anybody just piss away an investment like that? Is there a farm animal rescue home in your area? A friend of my daughter's volunteers at a place where they take in mistreated animals.

8. That's just horrific
I've actually noticed a spate of animal cruely cases in my area of the South (SW Arkansas and NE Texas); it's been noticeable, often involving horses. :( I wonder what the rates are now and if the Humane Society has any figures on that.

9. Sounds like my neighbor....
live across the street and was convicted of about 65 counts of animal cruelty.

She was arrested in 3 states;

tried to get Jerry Spence to represent her but he turned her down.

represented her self pro se

extradited to Oregon and convicted after jury deliberations of less than 30 minutes...
