I really wish Molly Ivins could have seen the results of this election.
I think about her a lot. I just know she would have loved this.

4. Sigh.
Me too.

And my mother. She was so proud to
be able to vote for Jesse Jackson as
the first Black candidate for President,
and I have to be proud for her in
actually voting for the first Black
President.

8. I don't think she is very far away, either.
I just absolutely loved her - her smarts and her attitude. She was just brilliant.

11. I was fortunate enough to know her for quite a few years.
Probably the Most Unforgettable Character of my life.

And I have definitely known my share of Characters.

12. Was she a good kind of character?
I've always thought I would have just loved her to death. I love women who dare to be characters and everyone else can just go to hell if they don't like it.

I never had the nerve to be my inner character.

15. The best.
I met her when she first started writing for the Ft Worth Star-Telegram.

Typical Molly Moment...

We were sitting in this bar on either Knox or Henderson Street in Dallas. Molly was undergoing chemo and it wasn't looking good. She was wearing this scarf on her head, and it was as drab as a scarf could get (Molly couldn't dress well if she tried). We were drinking gin and tonic when someone she knew came up and chastised her for drinking while she was so ill.

I will never forget her response, "Well, Hell, what's it gonna do? Kill me?".

And then she let that big ol' laugh bounce all around the place.

She was one of a kind and absolutely irreplaceable, our Molly.

One of the pure joys of my Life.

Tom

PS That was the last time I saw her. When we got up to leave, she wrote something on a napkin, stuck it in my shirt pocket and told me to give it to my sons. The next morning, I picked my shirt up off the floor and pulled out that napkin. She had written "Never give up the good fight".

17. Ah. That is so cool.
I think it was her brother who said she was a tough as old shoe leather.

She was just the best.

9. A lot of us did listen and we agreed with her but it just didn't do
any good. We were just too outgunned.

I read the book that was published after her death. It said that she was still working on that book and how she wanted it written just days before she died.

10. After 2004, Molly wrote a great column on the election
She accepted the result and said (this is in paraphrase) "the only way to cure a chicken-killing dog is to hang the last chicken it killed around its neck and keep it there until it rots. After that, the dog won't go near a chicken again." The dog was us and Molly is a prophet. God Bless Her.

14. Boy, isn't that the truth.
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 03:57 PM by leftyladyfrommo
I think she really, really tried to just tell the truth. And let the cards fall where they may.

That is such a difficult thing to do in this day and age. So many people who try to be truthful just get crucified.

I'm thankful that Toot gets to see it.

ON EDIT
I just read that Toot won't see it. But she no doubt knew.
