"RIVETING, POWERFUL" "BLEW MY MIND"
The story of what happens to everyday Americans when corporations go to war.
Acclaimed director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price, Outfoxed, and Uncovered) takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. Iraq for Sale uncovers the connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who allow them to do so.

Here are some of the corporations/private firms 'serving' in Iraq STEALING our money with the blessings of our CORRUPT GOVERNMENT:

TITAN... This company hires translators that have no clue what they're doing.

Titan's Translators in Trouble

by Pratap Chatterjee, Special to CorpWatch
May 7th, 2004

Titan corporation of San Diego, California, one of the two companies accused of complicity in the prison abuse scandal in Abu Ghraib, Iraq, is currently facing numerous federal investigations for work done in Iraq and around the world.

The 23-year old company, which has about 12,000 employees and revenues of about $2 billion a year, sells information and communication services to military and spy agencies.

Titan manages to score those federal contracts despite the company's history of running afoul of the law. Just two months ago, the Army has suspended 10% of Titan's payment for current work in Iraq pending an audit of employment practices while the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating bribery charges against the company in five countries.

Gained in Translation...
Titan earned $112.1 million dollars for translation services to the U.S. military around the world last year. Starting in 1999 the company has aggressively recruited translators in Arabic, Aramaic, Dari, Farsi, Georgian, Kurdish, Pashto, Tajik, Ughyur, Urdu and Uzbek by faxing community groups and visiting job fairs and language clubs. A toll-free number (1-800-899-6200) and email addresses for Titan employees Basir Kakar and Chiman Zebari have appeared on numerous discussion groups. <snip>

KBR

Rips off tax payers by blowing up $100,00 trucks that have flat tires. Lets our troops shower in contaminated water. Let our troops DRINK contaminated water. Charges the government $99.00 to wash a bag a clothes. A soldier said he wanted to wash his own clothing because KBR did such a horrible job, but they are FORBIDDEN to wash their clothing because KBR's contract is a cost PLUS contract. The more they spend and charge the government, the more $$$$ they make. Charged $45.00 for a lunch pack...a sandwich and cola, made LOCALLY in the desert, so it's not like it was expensive to import the soda, but it's still a $45.00 charge that WE pay.. The head honchos let KBR employees drive into an area they KNEW was under attack...employees died because of their negligience.

For KBR orientation, employees were taken to a 5 star resort in Kuwait and given free EVERYTHING while they were there. Free food, free Ski-Doos to play on, free room and board...ALL paid for by YOU AND ME. KBR executives drive BRAND NEW HUMMERS!!!!@#$% Brand new Cadillac Escalades and WE pay for them. ONE vehicle lease bill was $7000.00 (YES! THOUSAND!) a month! Making the vehicle lease $250,000!! for the lease. A KBR secretary LIVES at this 5 star resort where she has her brand new SUV, FULLY LOADED, has her laundry washed and delivered to her room and she never has to leave her safe, plush surroundings of the resort (WHY does she need her brand new SUV if she never leaves the resort?)...WE PAY FOR THAT.

Bunnantine Greenhouse is in the movie. Remember her? She testified before Congress about the corruption and no-bid contracts.

Bush Buddies At Halliburton's KBR Gave Iraq Troops Raw Sewage, Bacteria & Parasites In Untreated Water For Years: "Incompetence And Willful Negligence In Protecting The Water Supply"

Halliburton Watch
September 27th, 2005

Sept. 20 (HalliburtonWatch.org)
Former KBR employees and water quality specialists, Ben Carter and Ken May, told HalliburtonWatch that KBR knowingly exposes troops and civilians to contaminated water from Iraq's Euphrates River. One internal KBR email provided to HalliburtonWatch says that, for "possibly a year," the level of contamination at one camp was two times the normal level for untreated water.

"I discovered the water being delivered from the Euphrates for the military was not being treated properly and thousands were being exposed daily to numerous pathogenic organisms," Carter informed HalliburtonWatch.

Carter worked at Camp Ar Ramadi, located 70 miles west of Baghdad in the notoriously violent Sunni Triangle, but he says water contamination problems exist throughout Iraq's military camps.

He helped manage KBR's Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit (ROWPU), which is a water treatment system designed to produce potable (drinkable) water from a variety of raw water sources such as lakes, lagoons and rivers. ROWPU is supposed to provide the troops with clean water from Iraq's Euphrates River.<snip>

Blackwater Rising

Blackwater was founded in 1996 by conservative Christian multimillionaire and ex-Navy SEAL Erik Prince--the scion of a wealthy Michigan family whose generous political donations helped fuel the rise of the religious right and the Republican revolution of 1994. At its founding, the company largely consisted of Prince's private fortune and a vast 5,000-acre plot of land located near the Great Dismal Swamp in Moyock, North Carolina. Its vision was "to fulfill the anticipated demand for government outsourcing of firearms and related security training." In the following years, Prince, his family and his political allies poured money into Republican campaign coffers, supporting the party's takeover of Congress and the ascension of George W. Bush to the presidency.

While Blackwater won government contracts during the Clinton era, which was friendly to privatization, it was not until the "war on terror" that the company's glory moment arrived. Almost overnight, following September 11, the company would become a central player in a global war. "I've been operating in the training business now for four years and was starting to get a little cynical on how seriously people took security," Prince told Fox News host Bill O'Reilly shortly after 9/11. "The phone is ringing off the hook now."

Among those calls was one from the CIA, which contracted Blackwater to work in Afghanistan in the early stages of US operations there. In the ensuing years the company has become one of the greatest beneficiaries of the "war on terror," winning nearly $1 billion in noncovert government contracts, many of them no-bid arrangements. In just a decade Prince has expanded the Moyock headquarters to 7,000 acres, making it the world's largest private military base. Blackwater currently has 2,300 personnel deployed in nine countries, with 20,000 other contractors at the ready. It has a fleet of more than twenty aircraft, including helicopter gunships and a private intelligence division, and it is manufacturing surveillance blimps and target systems.

In 2005 after Hurricane Katrina its forces deployed in New Orleans, where it billed the federal government $950 per man, per day--at one point raking in more than $240,000 a day. At its peak the company had about 600 contractors deployed from Texas to Mississippi. Since Katrina, it has aggressively pursued domestic contracting, opening a new domestic operations division. Blackwater is marketing its products and services to the Department of Homeland Security, and its representatives have met with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The company has applied for operating licenses in all US coastal states. Blackwater is also expanding its physical presence inside US borders, opening facilities in Illinois and California.<snip>
