Something I learned from "The Power of Nightmares"
I just watched "The Power of Nightmares" and discovered something rather startling.

A few years ago, I remember seeing here on DU a graphic someone posted about "Al Quaeda's sophisticated underground bunkers" along with what I thought were humorous labels for the various features within the bunker. (I've posted the graphic below.) Anyway, at the time, it was hilarious because it was, I thought, the product of a humorist making fun of the obviously exaggerated sophistication of the all-powerful "Al-Quaeda."

So I was quite shocked to see this very same graphic in "The Power of Nightmares." It was actually something seriously promoted by none other than Rumsfeld! There he was, talking to, I think, Tim Russert, who was actually taking it seriously. I never realized that this was something produced by the neo-con fantasy factory and apparently accepted as fact by what we laughingly refer to as "the press." Amazing and very, very depressing at the same time.

1. It's something straight out of the comic books.
I remember when I was a kid we used to draw such 'fortresses' for amusement.

3. I don't get it
there are undergound cities in Turkey at least as sophisticated as this, 11 stories deep, 1,000 rooms, cisterms air shafts, all of it. There are also cave dwellings that are pretty sophisticated. They've been used for 1,000 years to hide from the enemy. I don't find these cave drawings odd.
