OMG! I just noticed something regarding counties with major bases in my state.

Ok, first off I live in Georgia. So I was checking MSNBC when they had a map up breaking down the votes in the states by counties, was curious how my county voted. 2008 General Election State Results

FIRST thing I noticed were two of my old haunts from my time in the Army were in blue counties.

Muscogee County (Ft. Benning) Obama 60% McCain 40%

Richmond County (Ft. Gordon) Obama 66% McCain 34%

Liberty County (Ft. Stewart) Obama 64% McCain 36%

When I saw this, I HAD to check out how the area around the bases looked (Ft. Gordon and Ft. Benning are close enough to state lines that it's plausible to live in Alabama or SC). Both the counties bordering those in the neighboring states were blue.

Also, checked on Cumberland County in NC home to Ft. Bragg. Obama 59% McCain 41%

1. So much for the talking head's favorite myth...
Regarding our brothers and sisters in the armed forces that they all blindly follow whoever the elephant party puts up to running for President.

2. VERY interesting analysis, malmapus. I wonder how it holds up across the country.

4. Yeah, but I thought it was closer, like low 50s..
Been looking at some other bases. Looks like Ft. Campbell and Ft. Knox are red (at least their surrounding counties are).
