What I've Learned
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 09:38 AM by Serendipitous
MSN has this series of interviews linked on their homepage.. these 2 stuck out as interesting.

Tom Petty (because I absolutely LOOOVE him and here's one of the reasons why):
http://boomers.msn.com/articleES.aspx?cp-documentid=377196>1=9206
"The war in Iraq is shameful. Whether you're pro or con Bush, you've got to admit: The guy lied. And he continues to do so. I can't understand why he's just not run out on a rail. To send somebody's kids off and have them killed for no good reason -- he's going to have his day in hell for that. I wouldn't want that karma.

When you kill somebody's little sister with a missile, he's going to hate you forever. And the next generation will hate you even more."

Gene Simmons (because I can't stand him, but I understand what he said here):

"I think Christians are wrong. They're wrong because you're not judged by your actions, you're judged by your beliefs, which is to say that if you're Hitler and right before you die, you say, "Jesus, I'm sorry," you get a better chance of going to heaven than the millions of people you killed.

1. So according to Simmons,
You can be an absolute monster but pullling the old Republican boo-hoo out of yer arse at the last minute absolves you?

I think not. :spank:

2. Oddly, he says he DOESN'T agree with that.
I, too was confused.

3. You may want to edit your quote,
... 'cause it looks like that's his opinion.

:hi:

5. Hmm
The 1st few words (of his) are "I think Christians are wrong."

7. ... but then he goes on to say
"You're judged by your actions. But you're not - you're judged by your beliefs..." ...

which makes it look like HE thinks we are judged by our beliefs, not our actions.

8. As a person raised Christian... that IS a core belief of Christiananity
Regardless of the sin, asking for forgiveness absolves you. He is stating that he disagrees with that.

9. He's saying that's what the Christians think
and that's why they're wrong, because you shouldn't be judged by your beliefs but by your actions.

"They're wrong because you're not judged by your actions, you're judged by your beliefs" - mentally insert a "they believe" between because and you're.

Hmm...guess it was edited after your post.

10. I didn't edit the quote, I added bold for understanding
and links...

But, yes... he's saying that he disagrees with the premise that one, like Hitler, could simply ask Jesus for forgiveness and have a better shot at entering heaven than the millions he murdered.... since, well.... they were Jewish.

11. Jebus I didn't intend to start a freaking flamewar ...
... I was just trying to make a point that what he intended to say, didn't come thru in the quote.

Note to self: stay the hell out of GD. :spank:

12. I am in no way "flaming"...
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 09:58 AM by Serendipitous
Sorry if it came off that way!

I was just blown away that Gene Simmons made a statement that I AGREE with.

On edit: I am new here, and I sure hope we can discuss without being deemed as "flaming".

4. Gene Simmons is full of hatred
his contribution to rock is one of personal aggrandizement. There is very little of musical value had has contributed.
