I wrote to Senator Stabenow, urging her not to sponsor the bills AIPAC wants passed and also to consider the lives of Palestinians when voting. This is the first time anyone in congress has ever responded to me regarding AIPAC. Here is her response. It is pretty generic, but now I will watch how she votes. I am not holding my breath.
Thank you . . .
. . for contacting me regarding the ongoing situation in Palestine. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
I believe that true progress for the Palestinian people will only occur once all parties have achieved a peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I support a two-state solution as the appropriate goal of the peace process.
I understand your concern about how legislation targeting the Palestinian government might affect the everyday welfare of the Palestinian people. Like you, I believe that we must ensure that the Palestinian people have access to humanitarian, economic and development aid at all times. I will work hard to ensure that any legislation that comes before the Senate takes into account the welfare of the Palestinian people.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please feel free to do so again whenever I can be of assistance to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
