Schumer Says Former Gonzales Aide May Testify About Firings
March 18 (Bloomberg) -- A former top aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales who is challenging his ex-boss's description of the circumstances surrounding the firings of eight federal prosecutors is likely to testify to Congress, Democratic Senator Charles Schumer said.

Kyle Sampson, who was Gonzales's chief of staff, has been negotiating through his lawyer about an appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Schumer, a member of the panel and one of the lawmakers calling for Gonzales to step down over the handling of the dismissals last year.

``Last night we heard from his attorney that Kyle Sampson really wants to come forward,'' Schumer, of New York, said on NBC's ``Meet the Press'' program.

Sampson resigned March 13 amid revelations that White House officials were involved in the decisions to fire the prosecutors, some of whom were involved in investigating political corruption and election fraud cases. Gonzales said last week that Sampson failed to share information about his dealings with the White House regarding the dismissals.

4. I like Chuck Schumer, they are starting the smear machine
claiming he's on a "witch hunt" - but I think that he's doing the right thing, you cannot
have prosecutors afraid to investigate wrongdoing by our government officials, esp. in
this corrupt age we live in.

7. me too, I hate the idea that this was a botch election scheme
they were pressuring attorneys to go after voter fraud: republican code for intimidation of minorities and poor people before the election, can't they just run for office like the dems do w/o resorting to thuggishness & also was part of a scheme to stop investigation
of criminal wrongdoing by Repug pols, like the firing of the AG in the Guam investigation
that was implicating Abramoff.

12. K&R. This is the real beginning of the impeachment, kids.
It's a non-veiled threat. Fire him and admit it all or we've got your Libby ready and willing to turn state's evidence.

Sampson knows that this is directly from Shrub, and that many heads will roll in between now and the chimp's. So, he decided to go to Schumer and give them all up at the beginning. I guess he doesn't want to rot in jail for these neo-cons.

Interesting to find out who else will jump ship and be on the winning side.

They're gonna have to sedate the chimp to get him his beauty sleep from now on.
