Stem Cell research needs to be a top priority
Obama can reverse Shrub's executive orders very easily, which is a good start.

But Congress needs to act and re-pass the bill on federal funding that was vetoed by the horror show.

This is time critical because there are millions of people with a ticking clock. I have two friends with MS and one with Parkinson's. And God knows how many with diabetes. These folks do not have the luxury of waiting for a few years, until our side gets around to it.

This should be part and parcel of a national healthcare strategy and it should be passed within the first few months of the new administration.

2. Yes, it's one of the most time-sensitive issues.
As a bonus to us, it's one of the best bi-partisan issues out there, a good way to show that Obama is interested in being the president to all Americans.

When I was door-knocking before the elections, I ran into a (self-identified) Republican woman (her son, the Dem, wasn't home). After chatting for a few minutes, I asked her who she would be voting for next week. She said she was from Arizona and had always been a McCain supporter but..."He picked THAT WOMAN!" Turns out one of her sons had been paralyzed in a car accident and stem cell research is his best hope. Her fury at Bush's rejection of the research, combined with Palin's "fetuses have rights" posture, was pushing her into our camp, and hopefully she stayed here long enough to vote.

5. Should be, but won't happen until we slash the military budget.
DoD is pretty much the sole source of research grants left in the US and they suck over a trillion $$ a year out of our economy, that doesn't leave much for basic research and the religiously deluded dry up the rest.

Thanks to religion, we've gone from leading the world in scientific discovery and innovation, to playing catch-up, or worse, pretending it doesn't matter.
