The 'christian' Right lost big time last election?
The idea that the 'christian' Right and Far Right seems to have is to convince themselves and the rest of the country that Republicans lost 28 seats in the House and 6 in the Senate because they were insufficiently committed to the Right’s agenda.

Unfortunately for Bauer, Dobson and Perkins, their own voter guide (PDF) and list of endorsements suggests otherwise.

House: GOP Incumbent Losses

AZ-05 (Hayworth) - 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

CA-11 (Pombo) – 57% FRC/FOF Ranking

FL-22 (Shaw) – 57% FRC/FOF Ranking

IN-02 (Chocola)- 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

IN-08 (Hostettler) – 71% FRC/FOF Ranking, CWF Endorsement

IN-09 (Sodrel) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

KS-02 (Ryun) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking

KY-03 (Northup) – 57% FRC/FOF Ranking, CWF Endorsement

MN-01 (Gutknecht) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

NH-01 (Bradley) – 57% FRC/FOF Ranking

NY-19 (Kelly) – 57% FRC/FOF Ranking

NY-20 (Sweeney) – 57% FRC/FOF Ranking

NC-11 (Taylor) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

PA-04 (Hart) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking

PA-07 (Weldon) – 71% FRC/FOF Ranking, CWF Endorsement

PA-08 (Fitzpatrick) – 71% FRC/FOF Ranking

PA-10 (Sherwood) – 85% FRC/FOF Ranking

Senate: GOP Incumbent Losses

MO (Talent) 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

MT (Burns) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

OH (Dewine) - 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

PA (Santorum) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

VA (Allen) – 100% FRC/FOF Ranking and CWF Endorsement

If the Republicans lost seats to more progressive candidates because right-wing voters were angry that the party “had abandoned their ideology” - as Bauer, Perkins, and Dobson claim - then how do they explain the fact that 10 of the 20 House members and 5 of the 6 Senators who lost were obvious champions of that ideology and agenda as determined by their own voter guide and list of endorsements?

2. The Christan right did it to themselves and all Christians
They not only damaged their own image but that of all Christians. For that the everyday Christian should be mad as hell.

3. The two Republics that performed best...
were moderates like Cal. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and CT Governor Jodi Rell. The only Republic in the House in all of New England is also pretty moderate - Chris Shays.

5. self inflicted wounds
right wing christian conservatism is dead.
They proved themselves to be sponsors of the ugliest intolerance
(no different than the Taliiban if you ask me)
and America has soundly rejected them and their TV hate-preachers.
Oh they'll still try to regroup and flex their muscles.
Just like any evil... they need to be vigilantly beaten
back into their dank caves of narrowminded stink

6. Honesty and the truth do not fill the collection plate
keep pushing the lies (that the Repuke candidates weren't sufficiently following the Reich's agenda to win), and you can keep up the idea that the select group of people are being persecuted and will be convinced that more money is needed for the fight ...

7. That's OK. They need to hang on to their delusions and keep yammering on about
it just as loud and long as they can. Then we'll pick up even more seats in 2008.

8. sounds like a victory for jesus christ

Jesus was not an imperialist by any stretch, and any wanker putting christianity
together with imperialism, may be following a long anglo tradition of defying
jesus by taking the blessing to idol warship, but they certainly are not
being humble before the lord.
