Reunion Fever Sweeps Rock World (BBC)
A Glut of Veteran Rock and Pop Bands Have Just Announced That They Will Reform in 2007 - But Why Do They Do It, and Who Could Be Next?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6298779.stm

In the past few days, the reunion news has come thick and fast. Antipodean favourites Crowded House, US rockers Rage Against the Machine and Van Halen and UK indie heroes James and the Jesus and Mary Chain are all planning live comebacks. Genesis - with Phil Collins but without Peter Gabriel - have already announced summer dates, while Sting is widely expected to bring back The Police. Other bands who have buried their various hatchets to return in 2007 include The Smashing Pumpkins, the Sugarcubes, Dinosaur Jr and My Bloody Valentine.

According to Mark Sutherland, London bureau chief of Billboard magazine, there is one big reason why many bands get back together. "It's called money," he says. "Essentially that's what a reunion boils down to. Phil Collins said he "missed the camaraderie" of being in a band "In most cases, these people can make more money in their old band than they can doing whatever they're doing now."

If The Police do make a comeback, it will be "the biggest tour of the summer", Mr Sutherland says.
"They will play massive venues to huge amounts of people and Genesis have already sold out stadium dates all around the world."

When Genesis announced their plans last year, Collins denied being motivated by money. "We're all loaded enough not to worry about where the next million or two is coming from," he said. "If money was the issue, we'd be playing more than 20 shows. I just felt now was the right time to have a go at it," he said, adding that he "missed the camaraderie".

1. If Peter Gabriel would have joined in the Genesis tour...
I would have cut off my right arm, sold mr liberty into slavery, or stolen candy from children to be there.

As it is, I'd like to see the Police again. I saw them on the Zenyatta Mondatta tour, and they were outstanding.

4. Police are rehearsing at Lions Gate Studio in Vancouver
And their schedule is supposed to be announced "next month". I would love to see them too - if you spot any more info on when tickets go on sale, please post a headsup.

12. Where in Tn, and what's a Bonnaroo?
I'm about 2 hours east of Asheville, so much of Tn might be doable.

17. go to www.bonnaroo.com
... its a 4 day festival in Mid-June, about 45 minutes south of Nashville.
Camp there, or get a hotel in the nearby town (who's name I've totally spaced on).

Awesome fun!

Other headliners this year are Tom Waits and Willie Nelson. :woohoo:

20. It's a great weekend, honestly!
... the ticket price is all-inclusive for the 4 days, you can just wander the grounds and check out who you want, when ... like 14-16 hours per day of live gigs ... all kinds of music, too.

Missed last year, but I hope to get back this summer. :applause:

24. Really? Didn't seem like it.
I got to Murfreesboro from Nasville on a Friday afternoon in about 25 minutes.
Checked into my hotel, hit the highway and was in the "Bonnaroo Exit Here "line in no time...

7. What about Steve Hackett?
Agree, with Gabriel it would have been outstanding, instead we will likely be treated with more "I can't Dance" era crap. But it isn't a real reunion without Hackett either, IMHO.

11. Oh...be still my heart! That would have been tooo good!
You're right about the whole "I Can't Dance" era crap...anything after "Duke" is wasted vinyl, IMO.

2. A Sugarcubes reunion!!! Woot!!
One of the most underated bands of the late '80's!

Genesis? Eh. Without PG, it will probably be a snore. The Smashing Pumpkins and the Police will be great, hoping they both put out new albums.

To see how many of the alternative radio stations that played them the first go around will still touch them.

9. Now if only Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Gershwin and Patsy Cline...
... would rise from the dead for a tour, I'd be a happy camper. I guess I'm just out of step with the times.

21. I'm not emotionally prepared for a shirtless Phil Collins
Genesis has always been the most interesting musical group of my lifetime. I don't know a single person who claims to like them, nothing aside from the "Invisible Touch" album produced a lot of singles, and yet they sold a billion records.
