McCain optimistic about war in Iraq; Local residents not buying his BS

WINDHAM - As he addressed the Greater Hudson Chamber of Commerce last night, Sen. John McCain saved the most touchy subject for the end of his speech.

"Iraq is hard and tough and frustrating and saddening," the Arizona Republican said at the organization's 38th annual awards dinner at the Castleton Banquet and Conference Center in Windham. "This war has been very badly mismanaged, but now we have a new strategy and a new general, and I think we can succeed." snip

"To say we are fighting evil, that's one of the reasons we're in this mess," Serino said. "Making a whole group of people evil and we're the good guys, I'm surprised he would say something so ... that's what Bush has been saying."

1. I hope we Am. will move on from this old belief that wars can
solve all our problems with the rest of the world. I see Europe much more in line on how to do these things. I think they have had enough of wars and know a lot more about it than us. They have lived in the middle of battle fields where we have just read about them for the last 100 or so years. Few Am. have died when one thinks of those countries of Europe. It may be slow but I think trying to talk it out is best. In fact I am sort of glad we did not go to war with USSR for all those years. With people like Bush and McCain we would have been at war with them in 1946. Lord what would they have done when Berlin was shut down?
