Eric Holder, our soon-to-be Attorney General, is Anti-Death Penalty!!!!
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 05:15 PM by oktoberain
From his Wiki:

In 1993 Holder was appointed U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia by President Bill Clinton. In 1997, upon the spring retirement of Jamie Gorelick, Clinton nominated Holder to be the next Deputy Attorney General. Holder was quickly confirmed several months later in the Senate by a unanimous vote. During his confirmation hearing, Holder's opposition to the death penalty was questioned, but he pledged his intention to cooperate with the current laws and Attorney General Janet Reno, saying, "I am not a proponent of the death penalty, but I will enforce the law as this Congress gives it to us." Holder was the first African American to serve in each of those positions.

Well that's certainly a mark *heavily* in his favor, in my book. Not only is our new AG going to stop the torture and spying, but he's also against state-sponsored murder! Thank you Obama!!! Please let this be a sign of change to come.

:woohoo:

4. I would argue that unless there's video, or hard DNA evidence,
guilt is impossible to 100% determine. But at this moment, I am SO happy to FINALLY have an anti-execution ally in a position of power that I don't want to argue about it. I just want to bounce!

5. I go back and forth
I was originally for it. I don't see the point in imprisioning people who cannot be rehabilitated, but recently, and especially with the increased quality of DNA testing, the 100% guilty bar is so hard to reach. Serial rapists (children and adults) as well as thse that commit truly henious crimes are hard to justify.
