45 arrested at SF 'die-in' war protest
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 06:27 PM by sfexpat2000
(03-19) 14:35 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Police arrested 45 people today after their "die-in" protesting the Iraq war blocked traffic on Market Street.

The protesters were taken in three vans to the county jail, where they were cited and released for failing to obey a traffic officer, a misdemeanor, and blocking a traffic lane, an infraction, said San Francisco police Sgt. Steven Mannina. Among those arrested were a woman in a wheelchair and a woman in a nun's habit.

Police moved in and made the arrests about 12:50 p.m. at Market and Montgomery streets after the die-in moved off the sidewalk into Market Street.

The protest was one of several held around the Bay Area today after this weekend marked the four-year anniversary of the war in Iraq.

5. Never give up, az chela. I'm going out to Civic Center tonight.
I hope it doesn't turn ugly. That was a big overreaction on the part of City Hall today.

9. You go, my sister.
:toast:

I guess I'm remembering what happened one night when our mayor and Harvey Milk were gunned down. The vigil turned very violent. May we do better tonight.

Be safe, be visible and be strong.
