Kucinich: Impeachment: I'm asking you. Do you think it's time?
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 09:01 PM by helderheid

*It appears that as Kucinich ran as being the anti-war candidate in 2004, he is now the pro impeachment candidate of 2008.

Impeachment: I'm asking you. Do you think it's time?

Dear Friends,

Today is the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. We know it was wrong to go into this war and it's wrong to stay in.

For four years I have been working to end this war, including leading the effort to cut off continued funding for the war. There is enough money to bring our troops home and we should do that.

But the Bush administration, with the help of some in Congress, wants to pour more money into this war.

Worse than that, the Bush administration now is signaling its intention to wage war with Iran. We cannot allow that to happen.

So I'm asking you. Do you think it's time?

I'm talking about time for impeachment.

I ask because we are now have a condition in this country where we are told to take impeachment off the table, and keep on the table a U.S. military attack against Iran.

This situation calls for us to reconsider very deeply the moment that we're in – where our Constitution is being trashed, where international law is being violated, where our hopes and dreams for the education of our children, for the health of our people, for housing, for our veterans, are being set aside as we go deeper and deeper into war.

We need a whole discussion in America. And with your help, we're about to have one.

Please go to my website, and watch the video posted today, "Impeachment: I'm asking you. Do you think it's time?" ... http://kucinich.us/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?q=195928&u=310

You may find the printed transcript of this video at ... http://kucinich.us/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?q=195928&u=311

Or you can see this video on my YouTube site, at ... http://kucinich.us/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?q=195928&u=312

Once you've watched or read this statement, please send me your comments. Over this past weekend there were thousands of demonstrations against this war being waged by the President with the consent of Congress. This must stop.

Then talk to your friends, family, and neighbors. Get them together for a house party to discuss this war, and our options to stop it. Click here for information on a house party kit.

Please join with me on this day by signaling your continued support for ending this war. Your voice is important.

And so is your contribution. We need your help to carry our message forward. Our goal is to raise $50 million for this campaign, $50 at a time from one million concerned Americans: http://kucinich.us/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?q=195928&u=314;id=1

Be One of a Million. Please contribute today to show your support for ending this war.

Thank you,

Dennis J Kucinich

1. No, I do not think it's time
Absent 67 Senate votes, it's a fool's errand.

Unlike proposing legislation, impeachment would be a one-shot deal. Get it right and get it done the first time, or it's over.

Let's keep the hearings going - not impeachment hearings - but good old investigative hearings. Hopefully something big enough to really force the issue will emerge.

But doing it now would certainly fail.

2. Hey Monkey aren't you counting votes a little Early? An impeachment of a thousand meetings starts
with the first step.

I believe it is time to take that step.

Why don't you go recruit more votes while the congress does its' job?

5. I'm saying the Congress SHOULD
be doing their job - which is investigating right now.

A prosecutor doesn't indict someone, THEN do the investigation and gather evidence. It's the other way around.

Congress needs NOW to gather the evidence. If it proves compelling enough to garner a conviction, THEN they impeach.

14. They've been caught redhanded so many times already.
Torture, wiretapping, lying us into a war. For their "failures" on 9/11 alone, they should be impeached because they failed to defend or protect anything.

3. Its very possible.....
A month ago I'd never have guessed I'd hear of any Republicans asking for Gonzales' resignation.

6. Yes, it's time. First Gonzales (if he's still there in a week) then Cheney, then
bush.

"There ain't no success like failure, and failure's no succeass at all."

"If at first you don't succeed, try try again!"

Ain't nothing in the constitution I can see that says Impeachment can only be tried once. Heck, first let's try for the DSM. if that doesn't work let's go for the yellow cake lie. If that's not enough to sway the Repos, let's go for Katrina. If that fails, let's go for outing Plame. If that falls short, let's impeach for cooking the intel. etc etc.

There's so much that warrents impeachment we won't run out of perfectly reasonable reasons.

The sooner we start the better.

8. No
nothing in the constitution. But as a practical matter, bringing the Congress to a virtual halt for a few months to pursue impeachment, then failing, would preclude doing it again in the short time left in the Bush administration.

12. There isn't a timeline either in the constitution, as far as I know. I say make it
conform to a "fair and speedy" trial.

A week should do it in the house. Maybe 10 days in the Senate.

So we could impeach 5 or 6 times easily in the next 9 months. it would also avoid bringing things to a stand still.

4. Impeachment will be a slam dunk
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 09:21 PM by mmonk
if Waxman gets more involved with his hearings (especially if Sibel Edmonds is allowed to testify in public). In fact, you'd probably see a bunch of resignations as well and it would cascade like an avalanche.

7. Yep, I've said for a few years now, that if honest ivestigations are
underway the people of this country will demand impeachment and REMOVAL from office. They just need to be inundated with the reasons why that the republicans never would investigate as they were too busy covering it all up.

It's a duty ... and doing one's duty is NEVER conditional upon the reaction of those with a vested interest in corruption!

Never.

10. So if the pro-impeachment candidate wins and becomes the pro-impeachment president
who will he impeach?

22. They didn't "have the votes" to remove A. Johnson, but the process crippled him.
Even if they don't "have the votes" the mere act of pursuing it, rather than "taking it off the table" is a good way to make Shrub's ability to govern even more tenuous.

24. Way past time. I'm glad he's saying this - he wouldn't if he didn't truly think it were possible to
do - he was asked in 2004 over and over about impeachment and he always said, "We don't have the votes."

28. And the Dems were a minority in the House
His Congressional re-election site forum had a policy of not allowing any mention of impeachment until November 2006. Things change when you are in the majority party, obviously.
