I would submit that Obama is no longer "president-elect"
Edited on Tue Nov-25-08 06:16 PM by trof
I think he has now, of necessity and by his actions, moved into the role of "acting president".

It's clear that Bush is just serving out his time.
He is the lamest lame duck in our history.
He is nothing more than a place holder.

At least one NYT columnist has written that, for the good of the nation, Bush should just go ahead and resign.
Of course Cheney would have to resign first.
And that would make Nancy Pelosi president until January 20, 2009.
You would actually be able to hear right-wing heads exploding.

Although Obama has made the disclaimer that there can only be one president at a time, I believe that he has, in actuality, already assumed the helm.
And that's what I'm most thankful for this Thanksgiving.
:-)

1. It's a nice thought, but I don't think shit in his underpants will leave one second
before he has to.

He quite fancies himself as the leader of the free world. :eyes:

He's not doing anything to help, but he's not going to get out of the way and let someone else do it, either. Not now. It's his watch, you know.

January 20, 2009 cannot come soon enough for me.

2. Bush is missing a golden opportunity to have an actual legacy...
Besides The Great Depression, Part Deux, that is.

He could save himself a lot of parting hatred by telling Obama openly, that anything he wants to get started on right now, would be Bush's pleasure... he could get the ball rolling.

But he wouldn't.

He's such a fucking ass.

4. Dangerous thinking. Knock it off please.
As much as we all would like it if it was true until Obama is officially inaugurated his hands are tied. He has extremely limited influence compared to what he's going to have after January 20th. And the Right would love nothing better than to SAY that Obama is already in charge because then they can start blaming everything wrong with the economy on him while he's in no position to actually DO anything about the economy. "Why isn't Obama fixing things? Oh look, the market is tanking, why isn't Obama stopping it!?!?!?" Etc.. They're already trying to get that kind of thinking out there without us helping it along, thanks anyway. Bush is still President, this is HIS mess, and we're supposed to be pointing out that HE isn't doing anything to fix it. Not asking why the guy who isn't in charge yet isn't acting like he's in charge.

We don't want to go there. We do not need to help the Right try to pin responsibility for this mess on Obama by spreading the idea that he's already in charge before he actually is.

Its going to get a lot worse in the next 60 days... We don't need that attached to Obama and certainly not as a talking point for the insane or intellectually challenged.

Peace,
MZr7

8. Wow. TWO times dangerous.
I may be headed for FBI's 10 Most Wanted.

"Wanted: trof
For Dangerous Thinking.
May be armed and...you know...DANGEROUS!
Approach with caution."

Maybe I'll achieve my lifelong goal of NOTORIOUS?

6. "Dangerous thinking"? Gee, I've never been accused of THAT before.
Dangerous thinking.
Wow.
I guess I'm busted by the Thought Police?
BTW, I disagree with just about everything you wrote in your reply, but that might be more 'dangerous thinking'.
Gosh, I hope there was no collateral damage.
*whew*

7. If you're going to disagree with almost everything I wrote...
...try actually doing it. With, you know, arguments. WHY do you disagree? What, specifically was I wrong about and how was I wrong?

Are you somehow under the impression Obama DOES currently have the full authority to act on the economy that he will have when he's actually inaugurated as President?

Do you think the Right DOESN'T want to try to pin the blame for the tanking economy on him and pretend Bush has nothing to do with anything anymore?

What?

9. The Bush gang isn't leaving early- they have 2 more months to make sure the USA is FUBAR
And it looks like they'll need every bit of that time to accomplish their goal.

At this point, I think they just want to make sure there is no way for Democrats to save the country. It's always been political for these assholes and that's not going to change at this late date. They have absolutely no loyalty to this Nation or its citizens. It's been all about politics, money, and chickenhawk fantasies since day one.

12. I just saw a preview for ABC News on Monday night re: an interview with Bush
and the voice over said:

Charlie Gibson takes a ride on Air Force One and visits Camp David with President and Laura Bush....

:banghead:

SHOULDN'T HE BE INTERVIEWING HIM ABOUT WHEN HE IS GOING TO STEP UP AND TRY TO PULL THIS COUNTRY OUT OF THE FINANCIAL CRISIS, ETC. ETC. ETC.

THE MEDIA IS TOTALLY AIDING BUSH IN EFFORTS TO LET GO OF THE REINS AND LET THESE PROBLEMS STAMPEDE OFF INTO ANY DIRECTION FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS.

Sorry....had to get it off my chest!
