K-Pete and friends: Step away from your computers!!

Very soon after I joined DU I read a post titled 'Kephra is dead' I believe it was. I had no idea who Kephra was (hopefully I'm spelling the name right) but read that post and all the follow-ups about what had happened to Kephra. He was a well-respected DUer whose work kept everyone informed of many hot topics of the day. Someone, please fill us in with the details of the medical term for what killed Kephra. If I recall correctly it was from sitting at the computer for so long and not getting enough circulation going, something about a blood clot?

This has been on my mind the past few days where I see so many people are working so hard to dig up all this beautiful information about the Bush Admin's illegal acts. You are all such an asset to DU, I personally am not able to do the research but appreciate all that you do to bring it here to DU. Just, please, take a few moments every hour so to get up and walk around, stretch out your legs, take care of you.

I'm calling out K-Pete, I've seen so many of your posts here that show you are doing a lot of digging and research. Please, get up every hour, put a picture of W on the floor and do the Mexican Hat Dance over it (and on it!). And thanks for all you do for DU and America.

List here a gentle reminder to DUers you see frequently that are doing the research and bringing the news from many sources to us so they can get up and take care of themselves.

1. This is such a good reminder. Many of us sit too long at computers.

I keep thinking of NBC reporter David Bloom.

I try to move my feet, flex leg muscles, and get up fairly often to just walk around a bit. I know it's probably not enough, but it can't hurt.

6. For those who worry too much about me

I am in Mammoth Lakes - I have been skiing everyday (no powder but great groomed runs). I take plenty of walks, exercise regular, eat mostly organic foods and DOCUMENT ATROCITIES every moment I get a chance.

But thanks for caring about me and others who do the same.

12. I can vouch for what you're saying

5 years ago I was downsized a couple weeks before I had a DVT in my left leg. At the time my wife and I were planning to build a new house so I spent a couple weeks on my computer with AutoCad designing our new home. As time passed and I noticed that my left foot was swelling for no apparent reason, didn't hurt or hadn't hurt it or anything. Finally I go to the doctor and the dvt is found and I spent a week in the hospital and all is well now but I was close, too close for me. So yes get up and move around some.

21. Very good reminder! And there's a little piece of software you can use

...to remind you to take a break. It's called Workrave and it's free. Since I put it on hubby's system he often moans that "mutant ninja lady" (one of the icons is a karate girl or something) has kicked him off his computer again. So he takes the dogs for a walk or makes a cup of tea until his computer lets him go back to work.
