Obama has to end these useless wars we're in or I don't want to go on
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 09:43 AM by shadowknows69
I can't stand living in a world full of hate and senseless death anymore. Much of it committed by my own nation. Things just seem to be on a crash course to escalation world wide and we'll be stuck right in the middle of it, or we'll interject ourselves into it. Escalating and "surging" in Afghanistan and any prolonged stay in Iraq will end up being as disastrous for us as Afghanistan was for Russia. I can't wake up anymore and learn that my tax dollars are destroying villages full of innocent people.

Most of the hope I felt on November 5th seems to be gone already. I know, I know; give him a chance, and of course I will, but so far there is no indication that President Obama is going to significantly reverse the course of the Bush doctrine (Preemption, occupying and destroying whole countries to get a few criminals, and maybe not rolling back tax cuts on the rich right away) and in my opinion it is unacceptable. This country needs a sea change in many of it's policies. Not some gradual evolution to change that relies on the the goodwill of some of the same people that helped install the status quo.

Just feeling very hopeless today. Probably the tragedy in India that set me off.

1. The world is a violent place. That's long been true.
And until human beings change radically it will continue to be true.

2. I believe that, too.
If everyone would take care of their own personal stuff, there MAY be a shot at world peace. But if people keep taking out their shattered egos and insecurities on others, be it other nations or the next door neighbor, it's a lost cause.

3. I think many of us have evolved in the more positive direction
But it seems like it's not enough of us. The lizard brain still has the majority of humanity in it's thrall and I think ulitmately if that continues to be true that we will eventually destroy ourselves. If not completely then at least down to nearly extinct levels and the cycle will probably start anew with someone crawling out of their cave to invent the wheel again.

5. I think it's far more complex than that.
and we may well end up bombing ourselves back to a state seen 50,000 years ago.

I think a major factor that we're constantly at each others' throats is simply than there are too many of us and that we now have the ability to destroy much of the earth as well as billions of people.

7. My point was that there are some of us who seem to care
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 09:59 AM by shadowknows69
And actually look for solutions to these problems, chief among them being climate change, because that is the one thing that if we neglect it ANY longer our doomed will be assured. Then there are those who cruise through their lives with no thought to the deeper issues that affect humanity's future. It is an ignorant arrogance.

14. The true course of human evolution isn't just scarred with war and hate. Its driven by such.
But isn't that great that you are better than the rest of the Menschen?

The wheel wasn't invented to bring food to the homeless on a cart. It was invented to carry the tools of war, such that man can steal food and create more homeless; if it is invented again, it will no doubt be for the later cause. We are a brutal and homicidal creature, which is also a great evolutionary advantage we over other beast who are content eating their feces and using nothing but their claws to kill.

13. That is why the world needs leaders to show the way.
People always have and always will scrap for what they want. There has to be Law and Order and Leaders that guide us in a direction for Peace. It isn't going to just Spring Forth. Obama may become one of those type leaders and he may not, that remains to be seen but I believe he is a lot closer to my beliefs on a Peaceful world than Any Republican. Rome wasn't built in a Day and the world won't be Pacified in a Day either. All I know is when you can Talk there is hope. When all you get is "Read My Lips" or "I am the Decider" then there is very little hope.

6. Exactly. If we have to sacrifice his promise of health care for 3 more years in Iraq
Then that is not only unacceptable as a country but it will possibly mean the end to mine and maybe my wife's lives because we can't at the moment get early treatment for conditions we may have but can't prove because we have no insurance. The poor is meant to die early in this world. Either through illness, crime or on the battlefields of corporate wars.

8. LBJ tried guns and butter, and he got his ass handed to him.
If he could not do it back then, when we WERE rich, Obama is going to have his work cut out to do it now at the end of the Bushite usurpation.

9. Shadow-
The world has been full of pockets of violence since the beginning of time.

Please try and focus on the good around you. If the people who want a peaceful Earth are not around, then things will never change.

Besides......you would just have to come back and do it all over again!

10. Yeah, but at least I'd be a younger man or woman Marrah
With hopefully the strength to fight against tyranny instead of just watching it while dying slowly. I can't handle the feeling of being powerless to protect my loved ones from the folly of our "leaders".

11. You can teach the next generation though
That is how the world works.

Try looking closer to home instead of worldwide when you start getting down on humanity.

Look towards the good things locals are doing on a small scale.

12. Just having feelings on a "different" level about things.
Ok, it's hokey and many here think it's BS but I've just been having very bad vibes about the near future. "Something wicked this way comes." A hard winter is ahead, etc. etc.

17. Well I'm depressed anyway so I don't need too many reasons
But it's on the list of things I consider every day when I make the decision whether or not to swallow a bottle of pills.

18. I would suggest turning to a therapist instead of DU
to help you sort out a healthier worldview. Your general practitioner can provide you with a list of resources.

Checked into therapist prices lately? Believe me I've exhausted all conventional options. Don't worry y'all don't need to have anything on your consciences.

20. The availability of mental health resources in America is indeed pretty poor.
I'm sorry you've been shut out.
