I admit that I'm not crazy about the choice, mainly because I'm not sure how Obama and she will reconcile their views and intentions and form a coherent policy, but I'm encouraged that Hillary Clinton has shown great growth during the campaign and has the gravitas to make that position important and visible. Why are some countries allowed in the select nuclear club and not others? India is certainly no less a worthy a country than China. The Indian nuclear program was the Raison d'être for the Pakistani program and I am certain they do not wish to part with their arsenal. Pakistan is directly next door to Iran but why do I not hear Israeli bluster about this potential threat?

Why would it not be prudent for Iran to deter any possible war with Pakistan in the future? You see that there can be no clear delineation of threats in a grey world. It is this very hypocrisy that creates conflict. Objective comparison of cultural virtues is simply not possible nor wise. Given this it is more simple and diplomatic to treat all nations as equals.

Every country on Earth shares some probability greater than zero of blinking out of existence. No matter the chance of this horrific possibility is is still a hypothetical event where as military action to prevent it carries as 100% chance of murdering innocents. Is the probability adjusted rate of death greater for the former and not the latter? Can these actuarial scenarios be determined by impartial political minds?

There are other possibilities besides mutual extinction between warring nations. You can observe the preparations of your enemy and strike him before he attacks. I refer of course to the proper use of preemption as opposed to preventative war.


Alternatively you can use technology to mitigate the effects of atomic weapons. We see from the shoot down of the malfunctioning U.S. satellite recently, that given billions and billions of dollars it is possible to destroy objects reentering the atmosphere to some degree.

Finally the ability to seriously and grievously injure a country is possible without atomics. Both Britain and Germany refrained from using chemical warfare in WWII because the retribution of by the other side would have been immense. Israel is a small country and with modern chemical agents most of the population could be exterminated below the level which statehood is viable. If war is justified over nuclear weapons then why not chemical? The threat is fully formed now.


Given nature of the world post-1945, post-Trinity why would anything like Zionism make sense? Dispersion allows a better survival mechanism in nature than isolation.
