Who here is reading through the DOJ doc dump and posting important finds?
I am randomly reading some of them at http://judiciary.house.gov/ and found some e-mails quite interesting.... is there a way to copy/paste from the pdf file over here? Been unsuccessful so far... tried notepad, etc.

Can anyone give me a suggestion?

Thanks.

1. Might be better to join up at TPM
since they've got the bulk done, and are converting the pdfs etc

although I wouldn't mind seeing a thread here with the summaries....

2. TPMmuckraker has it's users examining the documents
http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/002809.php

It is a fascinating read if one doesn't want to read all the documents oneself.

12. Yes, that is a fascinating read today.
I think anyone who wants to do this digging would be smart to post there, since there's so much gathered together in once place, with a lot of eyes watching the posts come in.

3. I read most last night and posted at tpmmuckraker, but have the same problem
as you; you can't copy and paste. i think there's a way to open it in word so you can copy and paste, but i haven't tried that.

4. Much of the info in the PDFs is in image formats, so you might want
to do a print screen and paste it here. It may be easier to extract the images from the PDFs, but I don't know how to do that.

5. If you look at the tool bar at the top of the PDF
you should see a camera that says "snapshot tool" when you nmouse over it. If you click that, you get a cross hair cursor that you click and drag (just like a cut and paste) over the text you want to copy. Release the mouse and it will send that to the clip board. Then open Paint or some other graphic program, paste the text from the clip board and save it as a gif or jpg file. then upload it to a server and share it with the world.

I have been reading them, but there is so much to go through, it could take days to see what is really there.

I would like to find a link to the original dump too. There was some text there that I wish I had grabbed but didn't.

6. Hmm? That's the stuff they WANT you to find
The stuff they didn't dump is what we need.

9. No doubts you are correct about this.
From what I read, there was not much that can be used against them. No surprise at all. Anyone who thinks this administration will willing put the noose around their necks is living in a pre-2000 world. They'll obstruct justice at every opportunity.

10. Well, there are some leads that are important to be sure
These guys have been so sloppy over the past 6 years that they are almost certain to screw up so it certainly is worth poring over for leads to what might be missing from the dump. That's about as far as it goes, however. The intent of the dump was to show that there really was discussion about competence but, as usual, it probably is going to backfire on them once the sleuths analyze everything and pinpoint what is missing.

13. Here is a transcript of that e-mail. Gonzo's pants are on fire.

(I added bold type, and this is a word for word replication of the e-mail.)

From Kyle Sampson to Bill Mercer on June 1, 2006 at 5:25 pm, and copied to Michael Elston

Subject: San Diego Immigration Enforcement
Importance High

Bill, this relates (certainly in the AG's mind) to the e-mail I just sent to Elston (cc to you) re our pressing need to, in the very short term, generate some deliverables on immigration enforcement, and in the long term, insulate the Department from criticism by improving our numbers. AG has given additional thought to the SD situation and now believes that we should adopt a plan-- something like the following:

--Have a heart-to-heart with Lam about the urgent need to improve immigration enforcement in SD;

--Work with her to develop a plan for addressing the problem-- to include alteration of prosecution thresholds; additional DOJ prosecutors; additional DHS SAUSA resources, etc.

--Put her on a very short leash;

--If she balks on any of the foregoing or otherwise does not perform in a measurable way by July 15 (my date), remove her.

--AG then appoints new USA from outside the office.

This seems to me the sort of thing for ODAG and EOUSA to execute. Can you think about how to so this right, tune up my plan/lost of bullets, and be prepared to (1) present such plan to the AG tomorrow or early next week for his approval and (2) execute the plan next week?

14. Yep, that e-mail is VERY important, imo
The date is the first notable thing, it is June 1, 2006 which is AFTER Carol Lam notified the DOJ re Foggi and Lewis.

All the urgency, concern about immigration enforcement was generated AFTER the notification by Lam which occurred, I believe, on or about May 8, 2006.

There is NO question in my mind the "plan" was to work urgently to remove Lam before she could continue her investigations that would bring to light more and more criminal activity higher up the bush cabal food chain.
