How can I shrink a PDF file? |
|
Someone sent me a PDF of a ONE PAGE broshure (not even any photos on it!) and it his HUMONGOUS - over 5 MB - took half an hour to load. I want to pass it on but I'm not sending that big of a file unless it is a hilarious 10 minute video!
How do I make it smaller and what in the hell did she do wrong in the first place???

My guess is that the file was somehow converted from text to an image.
The image can be converted to a more compact format or, sometimes, converted back to text.

3. there are some graphics |

I tried to copy it with the mouse tool and put it in another document to try saving as a different kind of file but that just about locked up the whole machine!

2. You might try to "ZIP" it. |
|
Free programs available to zip and unzip files available for download.

6. It certainly will make it smaller, but you may lose clarity. |

4. If you have Adobe PDF Writer, there are two things you can do... |
|
There is a "shrink file" tool... or, you can open the pdf and save it again as another pdf... it will automatically make it smaller. If you don't have a PDF writer (reader only) you are probably out of luck.

7. She probably saved it as a press-ready file |
|
Instead of optimizing it for viewing on the web. If you have the full-on version of Adobe Acrobat you can reduce the file size in that program, but I'm guessing you don't.
I'd offer to do it for you if you wanted to take the time to send it my way . . .

10. that is really kind of you but it really isn't that important, and it would take another half hour |
|
or more to send. And honestly? It doesn't have much real info - if it was an event I was putting on I would have been a little more informative. I just wanted to pass it on to a couple of friends - but really for what is there, I can just re-type the dozen lines of text!
I was thinking there was an easy way to do it and then couldn't figure it out - so I have learned that there ISN'T really and easy way. Now I will know that - so thanks.

8. Only if you have the Standard or Pro version |
|
There is a reduce file size option in my version of 7.0 Standard. There are also option to reduce DPI if you want to re-print it as a PDF.
