1. It's the first exciting thing to happen in Canadian politics since Margaret Trudeau.
Or Mackenzie King talked to his dog.

You can tell here that he and Fala are communicating:

Ousting Harris was pretty exciting, but that was a while ago.

4. It's fucking UN-BELIEVABLE.... I have sent some emails off. As well, the BBC has been sad coverage
I emailed a friend of mine at the Beeb and ask him what the fuck was going on. He said it was covered there, just not on the website... it's on the web now.

But CNN and the others haven't shown SHIT. I've been looking cause I like to see the coverage from outside news agencies. I've not seen a thing. Considering the economic situation, and Canada being a G-8 nation and the biggest trading partner of the USA, you'd think the nation's political situation would be an important issue.

5. Nobody really cares
Our knowledge of Canada is pretty dismal. Hardly anybody knows who the PM of Canada is or can name any of the provinces. In general, international news coverage is always bad in the MSM.

We get all tingly and excited up here whenever "Canada" or one of its cities is mentioned on US TV.

11. Too scary
They don't like the idea of elected officials rebelling against the ruling party and threatening to end it.

Sets a bad precedent.

20. The sitting Conservative (minority) government
is about to be brought down by a no-confidence motion by a newly-formed coalition of centre and left parties that will then replace them as the ruling body.

28. Well, it hasn't worked yet!
The whole thing might still fall apart, depending on what the Governor-General decides and whether the more centre-right Liberals get cold feet and fail to bring the government down.

But it's not something that could be replicated in the States with the system you have, and the fixed election dates and so forth.

29. Yes -- we have things even further askew with changing to ....
term limits --

which prevents us from holding on to the good while simply junking bad...

Was good to see you all on C-span --

They've been pretty much weighed-down by GOP into nothingness --

days of exciting programming pretty much over.

Naomi Klein says we have to move the center to the left --

Keep at it --

:)

15. american coverage of Canada has gone way down in the last decade.
At least from my perspective. Seems CNN puts all international news on CNN International. And leaves CNN just for American news stories or something outstandingly shocking.

16. They don't understand a parliamentary system
And figure that nobody in the U.S. is going to understand it, either. In my case, they're right, but I still think there are significant developments going on here, and I know for a fact that the popular media don't give a tin shit.

19. There is something OUTSIDE of US borders? The MSM knows
its target audience. They know that the target audience cares little about what is going on outside our borders...

Even here on DU... FURIEGNER stories sink like a rock most of the time.

As to Canada, highly entertaining... for the political junkies...

All I can say is Harper you made that bed... lay on it.
