President-elect Obama's choice to be Defense Secretary - Robert Gates, who already is Dick Cheney's Defense Secretary - held a press conference this afternoon. It was very interesting. The press asked questions. Defense Secretary/Defense Secretary Designate Gates answered them. It was all very low-keyed and polite. Defense Secretary/Defense Secretary Designate Gates said he really, really respected soon-to-be-ex President Bush. And he said he also really, really respected soon-to-be-President Barack Obama.

Then, answering a question from the Crack Pentagon Press Corp, Defense Secretary/Defense Secretary Designate Gates said, well, yes, he is a Republican even though he is not political and hasn't been political since a long time ago when he first entered the Foreign Service/Defense Game, er, Profession.

Then Defense Secretary/Defense Secretary Designate Gates allowed as how, yes, there were some differences among the "team" put together by President-elect Obama but, hey, he was certainly glad to serve his country.

It was an, indeed, an interesting press conference. Probably the Pentagon Generals and Real Warriors will now deep-six whatever coup d'etat they might have been considering because Barack Obama is, well, you know, not a . . . veteran. And is a Democrat. And Democrats have this (wrong!) reputation of not loving war and bombing and death and destruction the way Republicans do. So, the Pentagon Generals and Real Warriors went back to Planning Things and Getting Ready for their response to the terror attacks coming our way big time.

And then Defense Secretary/Defense Secretary Designate Gates said thank you and the Crack Pentagon Press Corp said you're welcome and they all went somewhere else.

19. She hates it.

She managed to get it off before I got her out of the carrier when we got home. Fortunately, I was able to get it back on her. I'm keeping her in the bathroom for the next few days, the vet said that I shouldn't let her run around too much and I don't want the boyz getting at her incision either. I feel so bad for her. :(

Let me know if you have any post-spaying recovery advice because I only have experience with boyz getting snipped. I'm really nervous that something's going to happen to her.

74. Peewee was spayed at the age of five, five years ago.

Since she was strictly an indoor kitty, I never got around to it, and the older girls were fixed before I adopted them as adults. Pee used to weigh 6 pounds. After her operation she piled on the pounds and now weighs in at around 15.

I don't recall any difficulty related to the surgery. As a matter of fact, I remember the vet saying how he was always amazed at how quickly cats bounced back from what would be major surgery for a human.

75. Peewee was tiny! Edie weighed in at 7 pounds yesterday.

They gave me a list of things to look out for and what to do and not do and it made me very paranoid about something happening. They told me not to give her any food or water until tomorrow, but I think I'm going to give her a little bit of food tonight - the poor thing hasn't eaten in almost 24 hours.

I just got off of the phone with my friend in GA, and he's not too happy that he's gonna have Saxby again. I spoke with my recovering repub Mom earlier today and she relayed to me that she'd rec'd a recorded message from Palin yesterday requesting that she vote for Saxby. Mom, "I wish that it wasn't a hidden number so that I could return the call and let them know that I voted for Martin." It'll be interesting to get her take on having Saxby back in office tomorrow.

Oh, Smokey, I feel for ya and your gorgeous kitty tonight. But, in past experience with females, that cone could come off in a week. It is amazing how quickly they recover. Know what I did with my KooKoo? The second or third day, took that damn cone off and held her on my lap while I watched TV for a couple of hours. She slept very soundly, so I made it a point to do that every day, and finally, she was okay with it off all the time. My 2 boyz didn't bother her either. Somehow, they knew better. Thanks for the advice. Edie's our first female kitty, so my experience is limited; the boyz were so much easier. She can get pretty crazy and I don't want her running or jumping around too much either until she starts to heal. On the bright side the vet used absorbable stitches so, barring any unforseen complications, Edie won't have to go back to the vet for a while.
