Someone in the Senate Is Blocking The Nomination Of A Bailout Watchdog

Someone in the Senate has put a secret hold on the nomination of Neil Barofsky to be appointed Inspector General to oversee the $700 billion Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP).

It is not clear why the lawmaker is holding up the nomination. Mr. Barofsky appears to be eminently qualified for the Inspector General position, and whether you support the bailout or not, all taxpayers have an interest in making sure every dime is spent appropriately and not subjected to waste, fraud or abuse.

Barofsky served in the Southern District of New York as an assistant U.S. attorney and as chief of the branch’s mortgage fraud group, prosecuting predatory lenders, con men borrowers and people defrauding homeowners out of their homes. This experience makes him an excellent candidate as the lead bailout watchdog.

Congress and the Administration have spent an unprecedented amount of money in an effort to help dig our nation out of an economic hole. Let’s find out who is not allowing the Barofsky nomination to proceed. Please call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to connect with your Senator’s office and find out whether they are responsible for holding up this nomination of the watchdog for the massive bailout package.

2. This line made me take notice:
"Congress and the Administration have spent an unprecedented amount of money in an effort to help dig our nation out of an economic hole."

A lame duck Pres-nit appoints a Republican appointed A'sst. US Attorney from New York, to investigate a hughly convoluted financial mess, with 58 days remaining on the Admin. clock?

Something don't smell right.

3. Reid overrode the hold of a Democrat a few months ago
something to do with the financial bailout wasn't it? It escapes me at this late hour--he needs to step up and override this one.
It's too important not to.
