1. I'd leave the baby too. It is usually bitterly cold and often snowing or raining. nt

12. Strollers + very crowded event = Bad Idea.
Borrow a backpack carrier if you don't have one.

32. They can bring the kids, but this is about crowd safety
First of all, too many thing can be hidden in strollers. Second, if the crowd starts pushing forward, a baby in a stroller would not be safe. As far as the weather goes, sometimes it is nice in January and sometimes it is cold. For Bush's 2004 inaugeration, it was really really cold. I wanted to take a hose down to Pennsylvania Avenue and water the streets so it would be a sheet of ice. All the way from the Capital to the White House. {sigh} common sense won out, I didn't want to be arrested and disapearred.

44. Some people might have to bring the baby if they're going to go
It isn't always for the baby's sake. Often babies are tag-alongs doing things the parents want to do.

But parents can carry their babies in a Baby Bjorn or baby sling.

7. That should be encouraged.
I see backpacks are not permitted but I wonder if you can have one of those things where the baby hangs on your chest or back.

10. Those would work better than strollers
but if you can't carry a diaper bag, how are you going to also cart around diaper-changing equipment?

35. It's still possible
When my babies were small enough to fit into a Snugli carrier, I used to put a few wipes in a Ziploc bag, stick the bag into a disposable diaper, then tuck the clean diaper under the baby's bottom in the carrier. It's only enough for one diaper change, but if you're lucky, you won't need more than one.

Using the Snugli with an extra large jacket also allowed me to share my jacket with the baby. They used to sleep very soundly that way, all cozy and warm.

9. Babies in strollers won't remember a damn thing
Sorry, but I've been tripped by strollers or had the parents slam them into the back of my legs in crowds too many times. Leave the babies & very small children at home.

elbow-to-elbow? I understand why someone would want to take their children to see this, but logically, how are you going to keep very small children & babies entertained, fed, watered, & pottied?

16. Nope, and that's a fair point...
of course, I agree that strollers should be banned; they'd be a disaster and any sensible parent should not even consider such a thing even without a specific ban.

(In my case, it was an outdoor stadium, probably 10,000 people.)

The strollers are for the baby's comfort and safety, not the parents. :silly:

38. No, they're really for banging into people & creating a safety hazard in crowds
just so little Junior (who won't remember a damn thing) can years later say he was "there."

And if you think a baby is going to be safe in a stroller in a crowd of 5 million, well....

39. Sort of surprises me that after the numerous threads about
the danger of crowds that anyone would this is a good place to push their child around in a bit of metal and fabric. And, as you said, it's not as though a toddler will remember it--I suspect it's a parent thing.

34. That's true
I know I would, if I could. But as paranoid as I am about losing my kids in crowds, I wouldn't enjoy the ceremony if the littlest ones weren't in a stroller. (They are still toddlers, ages 2 and 1, but they can run REALLY fast!)

I wish I could be there myself, children or no children. What a historic day it will be. :patriot:
