Free Press Action Alert! ** Take Poll to tell Obama your priorities for new FCC CHAIR**
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 09:59 AM by KoKo01
Any moment now, President-elect Barack Obama will announce his choice to lead the Federal Communications Commission. We need to be sure the person he chooses lives up to Obama’s campaign pledges to reform the media in America.

To help, Free Press just placed a help wanted ad in four influential Washington publications.

Technically, we’re not doing the hiring, but the administration needs to be reminded by all of us that the new chair must put Main Street before Wall Street.

Weigh In on the Next FCC Chair

The FCC has been held hostage by corporate interests for too long. Now is our best chance to change course and make real the possibility of universal broadband access, an open Internet, and more locally controlled radio and TV.

The new FCC chair will be charged with bringing American media into the 21st century, which is why Obama must hear from you before deciding.

Take Our Poll: Rank Your FCC Priorities

Tell us what you want the new FCC chair to do, and we'll deliver the results of the poll to Obama's transition team. It's time the FCC met the challenges of reform and renewed the media's role in our democracy.

This is one of the most important job openings to be filled by the next administration. Let’s speak out to make sure we find the right person for the job.

3. I was surprised to see that I voted for the...
top three in the poll so far. Free press is a very important voice and I hope that they will be heard especially on these very important issues.

5. If they are the same as the top three when I posted then seems
we have a clear message... Keep it going. I'm hoping for Micheal Copps to be Chair. He's done great work trying to hold back some of the worst of what the Repugs tried to do. Held hearings against the wishes of Colin Powell's son who was Chair and then that jerk who followed him. We will have three Dems to two Repugs. We just have to hope that Obama listens and doesn't cave in to the big media interests and RW Talking Heads on this one.

10. I know so many of us are tired of these "Action Alerts" that seem to go nowhere..BUT
IF WE GIVE UP then what will that MEAN for ALL OF US? WHAT?

If there's NO RESISTANCE then what does that mean for all of us to MOVE FORWARD?

12. Thanks for the links about Michael Copps...he's the ONE that Obama should Choose
as FCC HEAD... If he's too controversial for Obama (who want's to be seen as "inclusive") then he should still keep Copps on Board of the FCC in the Commission.
