This will sink.
All those posting about how Obama is in the clutches of the corporate vultures will avoid commenting. It's good news after all. Can't have that.

Obama Team Restates Strong Support For Union Bill

An aide to Barack Obama reaffirmed the President-elect's support for the labor movement's chief legislative priority in a one-word statement issued to the Huffington Post on late Tuesday.

Asked if Obama's support for the Employee Free Choice Act remained as strong as his public proclamations suggested on the campaign trail, transition spokesman Dan Pfeiffer responded, succinctly, "Yes."

The reaffirmation may not seem like a political breakthrough on its surface. But in the current political climate, in which the Obama team has steadfastly refused to comment on various legislative priorities, it does signal that the President-elect is not shying away from progressive pledges made during his campaign.

Moreover, it clears the air of some confusion that was prompted by a statement from Rahm Emanuel in late November. Appearing at a Wall Street Journal CEO Council conference, the incoming White House chief of staff spoke opaquely about the so-called "card check" bill, leaving the impression to some that it would not be a priority.

11. Rec 10 just to prove you wrong. Saving unions can only be done by creating more jobs.
With companies failing and a major labor glut, even unions can't save decent wages. They have no leverage. We must get Americans back to work producing and not just "serving".

17. Recommended...
...as I do nearly all of your threads. I too know the feeling of posting good news and watching it sink like a stone, while posts lambasting the President-elect for not cloning Kucinich remain floating for days.

Of course, people already know my theories on this incoming administration... I think they simply prefer being negative idealogues...

20. This is great news . Score one for us workers. The
Employee Free Choice Act will vastly strengthen the ability of non-union workers (as I once was before being organized into my trade union, which I then organized for) to organize and negotiate a fairer share of the company pie. After all, as I've always said, it might be them that does all the thinkin', but it's us that does all the work. And without us, there is no them.

24. And why would true progressives or liberals be against good Union news?
You're assuming that we on the left are against Obama just to be against Obama, we're not. Thus news like this is welcome. Let's hope it continues. Believe me, I'd love nothing better than not having to worry about an Obama administration.

27. Its the cult of personality thing.
Centrist aren't bothered with things like actual issues, and are unable to fathom behaviors like Principled Stands on Issues. Whatever is in the middle is good enough for them.

If you don't agree with Obama 100% on ALL issues, then you are an "Ideologue" or a "Purist"....

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

26. I anticipate honest govenment from this man.
Anyone forecasting duplicitious maneuvering isn't seeing the core Barack. It's just not his style.

He may fail at certain tasks or goals; but he'll be trying hard.
