World's most exciting Capital?
Me and some other DUers decided Ottawa and Washington suck ass on weekends. So, what do you think the most vibrant Capitals are?

3. I like Rome but I think Paris would probably have the edge.
Rome for just the grandeur and the ancient quality. Paris for style and cuisine and high, high culture. London can also be fun.

2. Just got back from Athens. It was pretty sweet.
I was in Istanbul too, which was even better, but it's not the capital of Turkey.

7. Yep, it's got to be Paris.
I've never been there but my family loves it and shares all their pictures with me. Hopefully, they will share one of their vacations with me someday too.

5. DC's gonna be hopping during inaguration week.
The city council just passed a resolution to allow the restauraunts to stay open 24 hrs/day and the bars and nightclubs until 5:00 am. I'm hoping it's a test to bring a new attitude to DC with the new administration.

Usually (except for Georgetown) the sidewalks roll up after the workday ends.

23. Absolutely!
Eastern Europe is so much better for partying than Western Europe. I go there a least once a year for stress-relief.

Cheers!

19. Yep -- Tokyo is pretty damn exciting.
Paris may be more beautiful, Washington may be more powerful, but I doubt there's a more exciting place on Earth than Tokyo.

18. Nowhere parties like Berlin.
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 06:57 PM by JackRiddler
Lived there 10 years!

Paris, London, Prague, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam* -- love'em all.

Athens -- an urban horror, but a great party town.

Tel Aviv was pretty fucken' cool.

Would love to visit: Tokyo, Moscow, Mexico.

*capital - Den Haag is seat of government

20. Paris may have some charms
But it also has enough crime and generally rude people that there is a special division of the Local government just to help out abused tourists. Personally, if I had my choice of capitols to visit, I would go to Berlin (one of the most vibrant Art scenes in the World), Madrid (rapidly taking over the lead Paris once had in cuisine, and home of the Prado, which can go toe-to toe with the Louvre any day of the week), Tokyo (the most modern city on the planet) or Dublin (all the UK charm without the British attitude, as well as having some Pubs that are historical sites in and of themselves.)

That being said, keep in mind, most Capitol are usually mediocre cities, not really representative of the places they lead. If I was going to Canada for example, I would not make Ottawa my main point, I would probably go to Vancouver or Montreal. I would also say that if you wanted to go to a US city that represented the nation, Go to New York, Los Angeles, or New Orleans.

24. What do you want to do?
They all tend to have some pretty high class hookers...

Well, maybe not so much Washington D.C. during the Bush Administration.
