Powerball winner had lost $400k in Enron collapse

MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- When Dan Gannon came forward Monday to claim the $182 million Powerball jackpot, it was actually the second time he'd experienced a dramatic change in net worth.

The career Portland General Electric worker was one of many employees who saw their retirement savings decimated by the collapse of Enron.

When the stock of utility owner Enron collapsed in 2001, Gannon said, his 401(k) plan lost about $400,000.

"Ever since the Enron thing, dad's been kind of down," said son Ben Gannon. "He's been buying a Powerball ticket every week."

It's nice to see the pendulum swing back. Congratulations Mr. Gannon.

4. I'm sorry Karl
 That has to be tough on your Mom, especially considering the health problems your Father had.

5. Well, GOOD for HIM! I'm always really happy when someone wins
these lotteries who really need and/or deserve it!

Sure I wish it could have been me, but it wasn't and I'm glad the winners BOTH were deserving and needy of the money!

7. No shit. It was really unsettling to me, in a weird way, when I read
about a powerball winner in West Virginia I think, a few years ago, won something like 87 million; he had recently retired as president of his own company and was worth 13 million.

"How is this fair?" I thought.

He, of course, thanked God. Like God really thought a multi-millionaire needed more millions.

8. Wouldn't it be nice if this person gave a portion of his winnings to others who lost $ on Enron
obviously he doesn't have to, but it would make a great story.
