Recount ends with 20-vote victory
LINCOLN -- A recount today failed to change the outcome in the race in the 21st District of the Nebraska Legislature.
Ken Haar of Malcolm claimed a 20-vote victory over James Arthur Jeffers of Raymond after new counts in Lancaster and Saunders counties today.
Jeffers picked up one extra vote in Lancaster County to reduce Haar's pre-recount lead of 21 votes in the district, that spans northern Lancaster and southern Saunders counties.
Haar, a Democrat, is a former Lincoln city councilman who had been targeted for defeat by pro-life forces because his wife, Christine Funk, is the head of Planned Parenthood of Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa.
