I just spoke with Representative Conyers and
he said there would be no deal with the White House. He was great to talk to even though I am not one of his constituents. He said he had just spoken with a lady from Texas who had called for the same reason. I couldn't get through to Senator Schumer.

7. another DUer helped me on this statute
Looks like its a crime to lie to Congress without regard to an oath specifically. In that case, have them testify without oath. They'll feel more inclined to deceive and they can be entrapped.

TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 47 > § 1001 Prev | Next

§ 1001. Statements or entries generally
How Current is This?

(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—
(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;
(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or
(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry;
shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.
(b) Subsection (a) does not apply to a party to a judicial proceeding, or that party’s counsel, for statements, representations, writings or documents submitted by such party or counsel to a judge or magistrate in that proceeding.
(c) With respect to any matter within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch, subsection (a) shall apply only to—
(1) administrative matters, including a claim for payment, a matter related to the procurement of property or services, personnel or employment practices, or support services, or a document required by law, rule, or regulation to be submitted to the Congress or any office or officer within the legislative branch; or
(2) any investigation or review, conducted pursuant to the authority of any committee, subcommittee, commission or office of the Congress, consistent with applicable rules of the House or Senate.

19. You're forgetting one small factor...
...no transcript or even notes on what is said in this closed-door meeting.

Not. Good. Enough. PUBLIC testimony UNDER OATH is the only path to accountability.

I suggest counterproposal. No oath on the record.

23. Cheney and Bush did that for 9/11 testimony
Edited on Tue Mar-20-07 07:07 PM by Robbien
Cheney held Bush's hand and they went in secret behind closed doors and had a "discussion" with the investigation committee.

You see how far that got in obtaining justice for the public. No where. If there is no public record or no public oath, then there is no justice.

I'M NOT A LAWYER!

That being yelled, I believe there's ample evidence in the released emails to indict Gonzales from his last stint on The Hill.

27. Holy cow, that's fantastic ncteechur
I've called a zillion congressional offices and never talked to the congress-person.
So that's pretty kewl.
But to have it be the great great Conyers. Wow.

Oh, and IMO when someone is the committee chair, we are all their constituents on issues that their committee deal with.

Kudos to you for making the call.

I did speak with a lovely woman named Carol who was more than happy to take all the information I had about USA Frederick Black's demotion in the Northern Marianas at the behest of Karl and his buddy Jack Abramoff.

I love this country.
