2. You should consider all the families that will be devastated if this happens.
Your hatred for GM should be softened by your concern for the innocent employees of the company, who will be hit hardest by this.

3. The employees pension plans, and company savings plans...long gone.
The people who still have jobs with GM should be bitching about that..
I don't know if they have complained or not.

GM plans on declaring bankruptcy now, so it matters not about the lost jobs.
The Republican bankruptcy law essentially protects the company, the bonuses, of the CEO and top level people, screws the little people.

7. GM wants desperately to avoid bankruptcy. However, if Congress doesn't give them at least some
amount to tide them over, they will have to declare, with or without a "package."

GM and Chrysler are both in immediate trouble, but they want to work themselves out of it rather than having an overwhelmed bankruptcy judge do the job for them.

Also, if they go into bankruptcy, they will need debtor in possession financing to keep going while they reorganize.

If they don't get that financing, they go into liquidation and will never be seen again.

The stupid pukes in congress, many of whom represent states or district which contain foreign auto plants, may not even give them debtor in possession.

I say that those folks should register as agents of foreign governments, and declare themselves so at the beginning of their questioning of the U.S. auto execs.

5. Reward Ford, Not GM, With Guaranteed Loans
Ford is further along on alternative fuel and more fuel efficient cars. GM dragged its feet, so it should fail, because there is no evidence that a loan or bailout will do anything, but delay the inevitable.
