Poll question: My poll question about your car - did you buy it new or used, or are you leasing?
The only new car my husband or I have ever bought was my 1976 Chevette. We're lucky because he has the tools and know-how to get pretty much any car out there up and running.

7. New, 2000
It's the first new car I've ever owned. Nearly 170,000 miles and still functional, thank goodness--it's been paid for for years. I suspect it'll also be the last new car I ever get, unless our financial situation changes drastically. (Significant that I bought it while flush from the Clinton era? Why yes, I do believe it is.)

10. 2007 Mazdaspeed 3, used with 6800 miles on it.
Thanks prior owner for taking the depreciation for me! Bought in February of this year. I don't believe in buying a brand new car. Now, if I was VERY wealthy, that might be different.

13. New, Nissan Altima 1999. I had a 1997 and it was great, loved it.
I paid it off in 2001 and have had 7 years of wonderful payment free months! It works like a rocket! A great car. I'm excited about it as it has only 87,000 plus miles so far...of course, I take care of it, getting its oil changes and any special checkups done on time...

25. Pretty much the same here
98 Ranger and 08 Yaris. The wife drives an 06 Altima. The Ranger is great, but used too much gas for the daily commute and has it's aches & pains, so it is now semi-retired.

a 2000 Grand Cherokee that we bought in about 2004 or so, and a 1994 Cherokee Sport that we bought used this year.

We LOVE Jeeps. I had a '98 Grand Cherokee that I bought used in 2001. I totalled it in 2004, and i was really, really bummed.

32. New '06 Beetle, new '99 Honda CRV, new '98 Chevy Silverado
All of them still running fine, still in good shape. We always buy them new and run them over 200K miles for at least 10 years. We're fanatic about buying solid cars and then ensuring they have proper maintenance and care so they last and last. We gave our mechanic our '86 Chevy (our old farm truck) last year when it needed too much repair for what we used it for. So our "new" truck - the Silverado - is getting a very good work out doing double duty hauling the trailer AND daily chores.
