ODETTA../ Garrison Institute/"Glory Hallelujia" / her Final Loud, Resounding Plea for Environment!
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 08:44 PM by KoKo01
Beautiful and inspirational....Let's send Odetta out...with her own Passion (for environment) from her failing days in a wheel chair...where her voice RANG OUT LOUD AND CLEAR...Like the VOICE OF AVENGING ANGEL!! THAT VOICE...in a Wheel Chair is as Loud, Clear and Compelling as when she was 20!

You won't be disappointed in this. But...give it a few minutes after the introduction...

2. Odetta never did do "pretty."
Hers was a powerful voice. Even old, sick, and in a wheelchair, you can tell she didn't leave a dry eye in the house.

3. Reading she passed away...I thought I'd check out You Tube for some of her stuff.

I spent about an hour over there...and this one had me in "puddles on floor, crying eyes out." Reminded me of Johnny Cash's last song where he warned us against the "cheaters and other criminals," (but was first sung by Odetta way back)

Odetta doing a song about Environment we leave behind, threw me over the top. Given her background...that she wanted to move on to leave a legacy for us to "tend and mind our environment" is just incredible.

I don't want all these "elders" to go off without us noting how they are trying to give us who are "left behind, younger" a message to take forward. It's important...they wanted to be heard. We need to keep their voices alive in our hearts........is what I think...whatever.. Just saying.

5. It is incredible. I had no idea that just this year before she died...she still had that VOICE
that would ECHO THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS! Incredible. Too good to let her go without other folks hearing it...

:hi:

7. I just bought an Odetta Christmas album a few days before she died.
I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet actually but it should be especially bittersweet now.
