What does Obama's victory mean for public financing?
Is it a thing of the past?

Will Obama's victory lead to far-reaching reforms to fix the public financing system? Or will the system just die?

1. Well, despite the nasty press reports to the contrary
Obama WON with "public financing".

I hope everyone follows in his path. Then we can scrap the taxpayer version.

2. He didn't win with "public financing".
He won by opting out of the public financing system.

4. I think the poster meant that the..
public did finance his campaign, because of the amount of donations that came from small donors like me. If a candidate accepts public financing, and the PAC's and 527's run the show, it's still a matter of who has the most money wins.

5. I figured the quote marks would be enough of a tip off.
guess not.

I donated about $200 total, maybe $250... I don't really know. I suspect that million(s) did the same or smaller.

Which is much better than taxpayer funded and much much better than PAC and lobbyist funded.
